    The family of a teenager, killed after a bin lorry driver pulled onto a "treacherous" main road without looking, said they'd been left "broken" at the death of their "beautiful" daughter.

    Nicholas Bush, 52 of Kingshurst Way, Birmimgham has been jailed for causing Holly Brown's death by dangerous driving.

    In court, Holly's father Martin and mother Sari, paid tribute to their "beautiful" daughter and said their lives had been left "empty and incomplete".

    Her twin sister Emma said her sibling was the "half of me I'll never be able to get back."

    She said: "We had a special bond only a twin could understand.

    "I always knew she was going to do great things."

    Plans to help Worcestershire’s hospitals cope with winter pressures have been dealt a blow, with a key link-bridge at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital a month behind schedule.

    The news has emerged at today's Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, external at Worcestershire County Council.

    The delay means a new 28-bed ward at the site won’t be linked to the main hospital until at least mid-January.

    This morning, the NHS trust’s new Chief Operating Officer told county councillors that the contract to build the bridge, drawn up nationally, contained no incentives or penalties to finish on time.

    An 18-year-old who left his victim fighting for his life has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

    Earl Obi, of Ardenleigh in Birmingham, stabbed a 30-year-old man seven times in the stomach while at a party in Kirkby-in-Ashfield last year.

    His victim, a passerby, had to be rushed to hospital and spent several days in a coma, according to police, who described his wounds as "life-altering".

    Detective Sergeant Mark Dickson said Obi "showed no mercy" in the attack and was "clearly capable of violence on an extreme level".

    Obi was handed a seven-year prison sentence with a four-year extension at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm.

    Holly Brown was on an art trip when the bus she was travelling in was hit by the refuse vehicle in Castle Vale, Birmingham.

    Nicholas Buck, 52, of Kingshurst Way, Kingshurst, Birmingham, pleaded guilty last month to causing death by dangerous driving.

    Today at Birmingham Crown Court he was jailed for three years and four months and disqualified from driving for five years and eight months.

    Small pockets of violence were reported before and after the match, police said, with arrests made for affray, using a flare, possessing drugs and also suspicion of sexual assault after a woman reported she was inappropriately touched as she left the stadium.

    A yellow alert covering Crewe, Nantwich and the surrounding areas has been issued from 09:00 on Wednesday.

    The warning then expands to cover a small part of Shropshire, near Oswestry, on Thursday with the Met Office saying the winds could cause travel disruption.

    The International Cricket Council has submitted a bid for women's Twenty20 to join the 2022 Commonwealth Games programme in Birmingham.

    The bid proposes an eight-team event consisting of two pools and would see 16 matches played at two different venues.

    Alfie Dingley, the seven-year-old with epilepsy whose story became famous as his family campaigned to get him a licence to be treated with cannabis oil, is to turn on his home town Christmas lights.

    The youngster has a rare form of the illness and can suffer up to 150 seizures a month.

    He and mum Hannah Deacon will join Tesco worker June Clifford in turning on the Warwickshire town's lights on Sunday evening.

    Chairman of the Kenilworth Lights Committee Richard Hales said Alfie and Hannah have been "amazing" this year, and that June is one of Kenilworth's "most loved people".

    June, who's worked in the Tesco store on Leyes Lane in the town for over 25 years is one of the town's "friendliest faces", he said.
