A mental-health charity for ex-military personnel says it expects the number of veterans requiring specialist treatment to increase by a third over the next decade.
The chief executive of Combat Stress, which has offices in Shropshire, Sue Freeth told a committee of MPs that Combat Stress would need substantial further government funding to cope with the rising demand.
She said asking the public to put their hand in their pocket was becoming increasingly difficult and mental-health services for veterans are failing to keep pace with those offered for physical injuries.

The force is negotiating to buy land on Holmer Road and it could be developed as a joint base for emergency services.

The chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust is facing critics at the board's monthly meeting.
Simon Wright’s been told to “resign” by members of the audience, after a health inspection report rated the leadership of the hospitals as “inadequate”.
He says he won’t be leaving and wants to stay to get the job done.
The trust’s chair Ben Reid has said he supports the board but will make “difficult decisions” in the future if needed.

Leighton Hospital in Crewe has failed in a bid for £1.4m to help its accident and emergency department run smoothly this winter.
The government announced in September that it was making an extra £145m available to support A&Es and cash would have paid for eight extra cubicles.
The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, says it has "robust" plans to cope with increased demand over the coming months.
But it explained it had been unable to secure the money, because "the trust was unable to meet three of the nine criteria, which included completing the project by December 2018."
