    The family of Jaydon James have been left "devastated and completely heartbroken" at the 16-year-old's fatal stabbing in Coventry on Saturday.

    Rev Gareth Irvine, who will lead a service later, said the family are being "incredibly strong".

    He said they don't want revenge and they don't want things to escalate.

    "They don't want the violence that led to Jaydon's death to repeat itself and happen to another family's son or daughter.

    "They want this to be a marker in the sand of our city, and say 'never again'".

    A book of remembrance has been opened at St Chad's Church in Hillmorton Road which is hosting the service in memory of Jaydon from 19:00.

    Worcester City Council says it's contacted homelessness charities to "assess the welfare" of a group of rough sleepers living in the Sidbury area of the city.

    A 'mini camp' has been set up off City Walls Road, prompting complaints and concern from some residents and traders.

    A "terrified" kitten has been rescued after being dumped 'like a piece of litter' in a Birmingham telephone box.

    The black and white female, found on Monument Road on Sunday lunchtime, has been named Jodie, after Doctor Who actor Jodie Whittaker.

    Helen Boal, from the RSPCA said: “It seems someone decided to get a kitten and then quickly realised they didn’t want her so just dumped her like she was a piece of litter".

    Her food and water bowls were both empty, "so we have no idea how long she had been in there", she said.

    The chief executive of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust is urging people "not to lose sight of the many things" they do well, after they were rated inadequate by inspectors.

    The Care Quality Commission criticised the leadership of the trust and said its emergency and maternity departments were unsafe.

    But Simon Wright pointed out a number of services were rated as "good" by the CQC and said concerns about A&E under-staffing had been "significantly addressed" by the recent hiring of a number of extra locum doctors.

    And he said the trust has attempted to strengthen its leadership by the appointment of fresh faces to the board.

    A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a teenager who was fatally stabbed in Coventry.

    Jaydon James, 16, was wounded in Coventry on Saturday night and died later in hospital.

    The teenager was arrested from an address in Oxford and transported to a police station in the West Midlands for questioning, West Midlands Police said.

    Ch Super Mike O’Hara from Coventry Police said: "This is a significant step forward but our inquiries are continuing".

    Opportunities are being missed to spot victims aged over 60 who are at risk of being killed by a loved one, an academic is warning.

    Anne James, 74, was stabbed more than 30 times at her home in Walsall by her grandson, Gregory Irvin.

    The court heard he had a £35,000 gambling debt and stabbed his grandmother first in the back and then in the chest, after assaulting her in her kitchen.

    Durham University's Dr Hannah Bows said a quarter of domestic homicide victims from 2010 to 2015 were over 60.

    She said systems to identify potential victims were "not fit for purpose".

    A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a crash involving a motorbike and a car in Stoke-on-Trent, police say.

    The road remains partially blocked after the crash just before 07:30 on Hartshill Road.

    The man was taken to hospital suffering what's believed to be a life changing injury, said Staffordshire Police.

    Officers are currently at the scene coordinating traffic.

    After a summer of celebrations, Telford is marking the 50th anniversary of the day the town was created.

    The event will be recognised when the annual Christmas market is officially opened in Southwater.

    The opening has been pushed back until midday due to high winds.

    A former Redditch postman who was wrongly convicted of attempted rape and jailed for 17 years, is suing West Mercia Police.

    Victor Nealon was jailed in 1996 after being found guilty of attacking a woman who was on her way home from a nightclub.

    He was freed in 2013 after his lawyers presented new DNA evidence to the Court of Appeal.

    Mr Nealon's lawyers claim the police failed to obtain CCTV from the club which could have shown he wasn't there on the night it happened.

    They told The Telegraph, external they are claiming he was targeted by the police because of his previous sexual convictions and because they had no other suspects. They are seeking £1m in damages.

    The force said "There is an on-going legal claim relating to this case and it would therefore be inappropriate for us to comment at this time."

    A yellow weather warning for wind , externalhas been updated and is expected to cause travel disruption across the West Midlands until 14:00, says the Met Office.

    Strong gusts of 50mph are expected with heavy rain also set to cause difficult driving conditions.

    The UK Met Office has not named the weather event as a storm, but the Portugese meteorological service has named it Storm Diana.

    A man has been shot in the back in Birmingham.

    An area around Alum Rock Road in Birmingham remains cordoned-off after officers were called to reports of the shooting in Sladefield Road late on Wednesday.

    The 18-year-old has been taken to hospital and is in a serious condition, police said.

    Further action could be taken against a hospital trust that's been rated inadequate, the boss of the Care Quality Commission has said.

    The trust is also being investigated over a cluster of deaths and injuries to babies.

    The leadership at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, which is already in special measures, has not dealt with the cultural issues that it needs to deal with, Professor Ted Baker said.

    "Staff sometimes feel bullied, they can't raise concerns and safety is not at the centre of everything they do".

    "The challenge for the leadership is to recognise the problems in their organisation and change the culture."
