NHS bosses in Stoke-on-Trent say they have extra hospital beds ready in anticipation of a rise in demand after Boxing Day.
Last month, they said their winter preparations meant they weren't expecting to need Bradwell Hospital in Newcastle-under-Lyme for any overspill.
The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Royal Stoke University Hospital, says it's also days away from opening two new modular wards, , externalcreating another 64 beds.

Some of Stoke City's players have been accused by their manager of "coasting" through their defeat at Birmingham City which ended the Potters' unbeaten run.
They lost for the first time in 11 games as boss Gary Rowett (pictured) made an unhappy return to his former club.
Stoke's next games see them travel to Bolton on Saturday and then host Bristol City on Tuesday.

A worker is believed by police to have been attacked with an aerosol spray.
Officers say the member of staff doesn't appear to have suffered any lasting effects.

A man has died more than two months after being hurt in a crash. , external
Police say Andrew Williams, from Highfields, Stafford, was injured when his mobility scooter was involved in a collision on West Way in the town on 16 October.
The 79-year-old died in hospital this morning.

Building work to more than double the capacity of a school in Staffordshire could start in the spring and be finished by autumn 2019, a local authority says.
Under county council plans, Manor Hill First School in Walton, Stone, would cater for 225 pupils, rather than the current 100.
The authority says the work is to meet demand for school places due to the number of new homes planned for the town.
It's given people in the area four weeks to comment on the proposal, with a decision due in the new year.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a lorry on the M6 this morning.
Staffordshire Police said it happened just after midnight at J11 on the southbound side, near Featherstone.
The force added a 40-year-old man, yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

A dog's being blamed for a kitchen fire in Staffordshire this afternoon., external
Fire crews were called to the home in Biddulph but said no-one was hurt.
They believe the dog may have accidentally turned on a hob.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in Birmingham on Boxing Day.
He was hurt on Leonard Road, Handsworth, just before 01:20 GMT and taken to hospital with injuries caused by shotgun pellets, police said.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and he's expected to make a full recovery, according to the West Midlands force., external
No arrests have been made.
Police have released details of a crash earlier this month in which the rider of a mobility scooter died.
It happened in Long Itchington, Warwickshire, at about 09:45 GMT on 8 December and also involved a BMW.
A man on the mobility scooter was in his late 70s and died in hospital.
Warwickshire Police, external is appealing for witnesses.
Isaac Wright, 90, from Atherstone, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

A rugby match is set to be held this weekend in memory of a British couple who died within hours of each other in Australia.
Jason Francis, 29, who used to play football for Market Drayton Town, was hit by a car in Perth on Saturday evening.
His partner, Alice Robinson, was later found dead.
Bridgnorth Rugby Club says the game will be on Saturday afternoon , externaland all money raised will go towards helping the couple's families.
