    Music retailer HMV has confirmed it has called in KPMG as administrators.

    The move, the second in six years, involves 2,200 staff at 125 stores.

    HMV runs more than 10 stores across the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry, Nuneaton, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Telford, Stoke-on-Trent, Burton upon Trent, Hereford and Worcester.

    Despite selling 31% of all physical music in the UK in 2018, is said it had suffered a "weak Christmas footfall and a further deterioration in the UK market for CD and DVD".

    If you got vouchers for Christmas, you might want to spend them sooner rather than later.

    Public exhibitions – setting out details of Birmingham Airport’s draft masterplan – are due to resume in the new year.

    The proposals, which include the blueprint for future growth at the airport site, are being taken around the region.

    Under the plans, it is projected that passenger numbers would rise to 18 million a year by 2033.

    Airport bosses argue that further expansion will boost its annual contribution to the local economy to £2.1bn, supporting 34,000 jobs, in around 15 years' time.

    Two women have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a woman and her pet dog were rescued from a fire at a property in Coventry.

    More than a dozen firefighters were sent to the blaze at Skipton Lodge, Stoke Heath in the early hours of Thursday morning, said the fire service.

    The two, aged 33 and 56, have both been released on police bail pending further investigations.

    Three men, found guilty of murder after an explosion at a shop killed five people, lit 26 litres of petrol in the basement of the Polish shop, Leicestershire Police said.

    The investigation led police to trawl through more than 700 hours of CCTV footage, and examine more than 2,500 exhibits, 1,000 witness statements and 4,000 different lines of inquiry.

    Arkan Ali, 38, of Drake Close in Oldham; 33-year-old Hawkar Hassan, of Eld Road in Coventry; and Aram Kurd, 34, of Hillary Place in Leicester, had denied five counts of murder in addition to conspiracy to commit fraud.

    The three were remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 18 January.

    Three men have been found guilty of murder after an explosion at a shop in Leicester killed five people.

    The blast destroyed a Polish supermarket and the flat above it where a family lived on Hinckley Road on 25 February.

    The city's crown court heard the men caused the explosion in order to make about £300,000 in an insurance scam.

    Hawkar Hassan, 32, of Eld Road Coventry, along with Arkan Ali, 37, of Oldham and Arum Kurd, 33, of Leicester have also been convicted of insurance fraud.

    A man in his 80s, who was taken to hospital after a crash on Christmas Eve, has died, West Mercia Police has said.

    The collision, involving two cars, happened at 10:00 on the A456 Bewdley bypass - the man, from Cheltenham, was one of three taken to hospital.

    A man in his 20s had a broken leg and other injuries, while a woman in her 50s was taken in for scans and suffered bruising.

    Dozens of people have signed up to take part in a rugby match in memory of a Bridgnorth man who died in Australia just before Christmas.

    Jason Francis was killed after being hit by a car near the home he shared with his girlfriend Alice Robinson in Perth.

    Ms Robinson, who was said to have been "heartbroken" after his death, was later found dead.

    Ian George is vice-chair of Bridgnorth rugby club and says all the money raised from the game on Saturday afternoon will go towards helping the couple's families.

    An online fundraising page, external has also been set up to support them and has raised more than £20,000.
