    Rolf, the University of Warwick cat with its own social media account, external, has been injured after being hit by a van.

    Rolf, who has almost 8,000 followers on Twitter, was hurt as he crossed Gibbet Hill Road near the Business School, but a first year medical student came to his aid and rushed him to a vet.

    According to his Twitter account he has fractured his hip, but should make a full recovery if he rests in a box and allows the bone to heal.

    People who feed the gulls in Worcester city centre could be fined £70 or even banned from the area, under new rules proposed by the city council.

    The authority is also thinking of imposing fines for urinating in the street, aggressive begging, cycling, skateboarding, or being found under the influence of drugs and legal highs.

    The council’s communities committee has narrowly backed plans for an eight-week consultation on the proposals, starting on 15 February.

    The 24-year-old midfielder, who wants to "pave the way" for more British Asian footballers, has gone almost 2,000 miles away from home by joining OFI Crete in the Greek Super League, after starting his career in the youth ranks at West Brom.

    "The move to Greece has been crazy," Nabi tells BBC Sport. "People are spotting me in the streets and that was only after one game, it is a nice feeling.

    There was a distinct smell of cannabis in a car which hit and damaged a wall in Coventry overnight, the fire service said.

    Fire crews and police were called to Longford Road, close to Longford Park, at about 04:20.

    The driver and two passengers left before emergency services got there, said the fire service.

    A floral tribute has been left by one of the ambulance staff who had to deal with the fatal house fire in Stafford.

    Lamara Shelley left a note with it describing the four children who died as "you beautiful angels".

    It goes on to say, "I am so gutted we couldn't save you all".

    Nathan Hudson, the Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer from West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS), said "This was an immensely difficult incident for all three services to respond to and my thanks go to my staff and all emergency personnel on scene."

    He also said the thoughts of everyone at WMAS were with friends and family of the children.

    Shropshire Council had said it favoured closing the Quarry Pool in the town centre and building a new one on the edge of town, near the Shrewsbury Sports Village, but it now says the best option is to rebuild or refurbish the existing pool.

    The HMV stores in Merry Hill and Hereford are among 27 to close, administrators KPMG have confirmed.

    It's been announced today that Canadian firm Sunrise Records will buy 100 stores out of administration, securing 1,487 jobs, but 455 jobs will go.

    KPMG, who ran the business until a buyer could be found, said they wanted to tell staff this morning, before making the announcement.

    Investigators say work to discover the cause of a fatal house fire in Stafford is expected to take several days, with police and the landlord also involved.

    Four children, named locally as Riley, Keegan, Tilly and Olly, died in the fire and neighbours say their two-year-old brother Jack survived, along with his mum Natalie and her partner Chris.

    Stafford and Rural Homes said it would be unable to comment on its investigation until it was complete.

    A 36-year-old man is being treated for "serious facial injuries" after being attacked with a knife at the Potteries shopping centre in Hanley.

    Staffordshire Police say he remains in a stable condition at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, after being taken there at 12:50 on Friday.

    The head teacher at Castlechurch Primary School, attended by Riley Holt, eight, four-year-old Tilly Rose Unitt, and Olly Unitt, three, said the entire school community is absolutely devastated by this news.

    Nicola Glover said: "Riley was a very confident, excitable member of school who came every day full of enthusiasm."

    She said Tilly was a happy little girl who loved coming to nursery and was a friendly, caring child who loved to read stories, dress up and paint.

    “Olly was a happy, loving boy who loved cuddles. He was always happy to come to nursery and loved to be in the role play area with the dolls."

    Kim Ellis, head teacher at Marshlands Special School where six-year-old Keegan Unitt was a pupil said he was "lively, full of fun and mischief with a really endearing smile".

    Both schools said they were putting support in place to help staff and pupils.

    Community groups and individuals have been setting up offers of help for a family that's lost four children in a house fire.

    A Facebook group, Community Help for Highfields Family, set up by Jayne Hardy, has had offers of clothes, furniture and toys.

    Ms Hardy said she lives very close to the scene of the fire and needed to do something to help.

    "The community has been wonderful," she said adding she had been overwhelmed by support.

    Ch Insp Gemma Ward from Staffordshire Police said: “We would like to offer our condolences and thank the community for their support, as I’m aware groups and individuals have already been offering aid.”

    A community centre in Stafford is being used as a collection point for donations for a family after four children died in a fire.

    Ken Down runs the Signpost Centre and said there's a lot of sadness in the community.

    He said he understood the children's mother has used the centre in the past.

    “Lots of people who knew the family were in the cafe this morning talking about it.

    “We are open five days a week for anyone who is having any issues. If they are feeling really upset about it they can come here and talk to us.”

    Others who were in the centre said it was “just awful” and they felt they were “still taking in what has happened.”
