    Dozens of people have taken part in a march this evening after the death of a homeless man on the streets of Birmingham.

    Kane Walker was found by paramedics in cardiac arrest in Pershore Street, near the Bullring shopping centre in January.

    About 40 people took part tonight with organisers calling for the city council to take action to end the "homelessness crisis" in the city.

    One of those to take part, Chelsea Reynolds, 22, said: "I heard about Kane's story and it made me feel guilty and distressed, and I felt like I needed to do something about it."

    Plans which could see drivers in part of Staffordshire being charged for using high polluting vehicles are being opposed by councillors.

    The government's told both Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council to draw up improvement plans by October, to cut dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide.

    Hotspots include the A53 at Basford Bank, Hanley, Cobridge and Burslem and a chargeable clean air zone's being pushed by ministers as the default option.

    But Newcastle under Lyme councillors don't like the idea of daily charges ranging from £8 to £100 and are going to ask their local MP to raise their concerns with the government.

    They argue that such a charge could hit town centre businesses and the taxi trade.

    A day nursery's been rated as inadequate by inspectors who said children's safety and welfare were "significantly compromised".

    The Ofsted report for Earlyworld, Stafford Park, Telford, said the firm had an extremely poor knowledge of safeguarding practice and also criticised poor hygiene and management. , external

    The inspection was carried out last month, when the company was given until next week to make improvements.

    But Easyworld has told BBC Shropshire that it has made improvements, with each area improved to meet or exceed recommendations.

    Staffordshire Police officers are going to have to get verbal permission before they book work expenses like hotels, trains and flights after going almost £100,000 over budget.

    The Staffordshire Ethics, Transparency and Audit Panel, which examines local policing, has been scrutinising the accounts and flagged up the overspend of 68% for 2017-18.

    Staffordshire Police's chief finance officer said the large overspend was down to the force's new regional organised crime unit, which has been running for just a year.

    The panel recommended the force change its policy so staff need to get verbal approval for travel and hotel bookings from supervisors.

    A £1.2m refurbishment of a Shropshire landmark will begin later this month and take six months to complete., external

    The project will bring the Anstice Memorial Hall in Madeley back into full use and will house a library, create a community space to hire and provide a cafe.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says, once the work's finished, a registered charity run by local people will take over the running of the building.

    A homeless man who died on the streets in Birmingham is due to be remembered in the city this evening in a planned march.

    A five-year action plan to tackle air pollution in Solihull has been approved by the borough council's cabinet.

    The measures, which will shape policy across every council department, external, are designed to cut pollutants linked to a string of serious health conditions.

    Chief executive Nick Page said the document would be taken into account across the local authority.

    Councillor James Burn, leader of the Green group, welcomed the plans and said that even a small change could make a huge difference to people’s health.

    Today, engineers lifted out the old 24-tonne deck of the bridge, external and say it'll soon be replaced by a new one.

    Almost a quarter of households in Newcastle-under-Lyme have signed up to a new garden bin collection scheme which charges them £36 a year.

    The borough council introduced the price for the service for the first time this year as part of its budget. , external

    It introduced it after Staffordshire County Council said it was withdrawing the money paid to local authorities for garden waste.

    The new Newcastle-under-Lyme scheme runs fortnightly through the year without a winter break and the borough council says 10,000 residents have signed up.

    The revamp was agreed last year and started in Shrewsbury, before gradually being extended to other towns and areas by Shropshire Council.

    The new tariffs will see a set price per hour to park, replacing former short and long stay parking arrangements which tended to favour those parking for longer.

    But those charges per hour do vary, depending where people park, ranging from 30p to 50p.
