    Birmingham City striker Che Adams would "enhance his career" if he chooses to represent Scotland, says national manager Alex McLeish.

    McLeish wants the England under-20 cap to pledge his future to Scotland before the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

    Adams, 22, has scored 19 goals in the Championship this term and is eligible for Scotland through a grandparent.

    "We're a small nation, we have to not leave any stone unturned and Che has been in good form," McLeish said.

    A Shropshire tourist attraction that is looking to get planning approval for building work carried out without consent, is claiming its positive impact on the local economy should be taken into account in the final decision by the local authority.

    A report commissioned by the British Ironwork Centre outside Oswestry claimed it contributed £2.9m to the county's economy and £3.9m to the wider West Midlands.

    The attraction said it employed 85 people and attracts up to 200,000 visitors a year.

    Its report says visitors often go on to visit nearby Oswestry, generating up to £840,000 for the economy there.

    Birmingham City Council has cut one of its senior officers, who was on a salary of nearly £170,000.

    Council leader Ian Ward thanked her for her work and said: "At a time of substantial challenge and change for the council we are restructuring the senior officer team and sadly the Chief Operating Officer post has been deleted."

    AFC Telford United manager Gavin Cowan says he wants to see his team be ruthless and not let their opponents back into games.

    They blew a 3-1 lead against Ashton United, before getting a late goal to win the game 4-3 and moved back to fourth in the National North division.

    Former Coventry Council leader Ann Lucas will be the city's Lord Mayor for the 2021 City of Culture year.

    A council statement confirming her appointment said she would first serve as the Deputy Mayor for 12 months, from May this year.

    Councillor Lucas became the first female leader of the council in 2013 and remained in the role until 2016.

    She was first elected as a councillor in 1995 and serves the Holbrook ward today.

    An NHS trust says it is to take over a private hospital in Crewe.

    The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Leighton Hospital, says it is moving to acquire the South Cheshire Private Hospital (SCPH).

    The SCPH is based on the same site as Leighton, has 32 beds and two operating theatres and is currently run by BMI Healthcare.

    The NHS trust says the contract hasn't been finalised so it can't reveal how much money it's spending on the move.

    Worcester Warriors flanker Marco Mama has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Sixways until the end of next season.

    The 27-year-old Zimbabwean first joined Warriors from Bristol in 2015 before signing a permanent deal in early 2016.

    Mama has scored three tries in 44 appearances.

    A Shropshire councillor who's being investigated by the Labour party for sharing anti-semitic posts on social media says he's considering his future with the party.

    He was reported to the party last summer and an investigation into his behaviour is ongoing.

    The case is being dealt with by the National Complaints Unit at the party's Head Office. A party spokesperson said the unit had been swamped by complaints from across the country and extra staff had been drafted in to help.

    Mr Jones continues to sit with the Labour group on Shropshire Council.

  13. Memorial to mark 75th anniversary of warship sinkingpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2019

    A memorial service has been held at Warwick castle to remember the 66 sailors killed when a ship named in honour of the town sank in World War Two, 75 years ago.

    The destroyer HMS Warwick was torpedoed off the Cornish coast in 1944 and memorial events also took place at the Naval Memorial in Kent and at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

    They gathered beside a tree planted in 2008 in honour of the troop ship SS Warwick Castle, which had been sunk in 1942 by the same German submarine which later struck the HMS Warwick off Trevose Head.

    The Court of Appeal has decided to reserve judgement in the case of a man found guilty of manslaughter for selling toxic slimming pills that killed the Shropshire student Eloise Parry.

    A Birmingham councillor has resigned her position as chief whip of the ruling Labour group in protest at their handling of the latest bin strike in the city.

    The walkout started yesterday over claims some staff have been "blacklisted" for taking part in industrial action in 2017 - claims denied by the local authority.

    Today, the council's cabinet agreed to continue to pursue an injunction against the strikers, despite calls from some in their Labour party to withdraw it.

    Councillor Kerry Jenkins, who was one of 23 Labour councillors to sign a letter calling for senior councillors to "step back" from the current approach, says she can't support the policy.

    In her resignation letter, she says she's been "shocked by the anti-union vitriol" from the cabinet and says a Labour council should be working with the unions.

    Structural engineers are going to carry out another inspection of Lord Hill's Column in Shrewsbury after small pieces of stone were found on the ground nearby.

    The statue, which stands outside Shropshire Council's headquarters, had to be cordoned off in 2013 when pieces fell off and the barriers remained until repairs were carried out the following year.

    Today, the council said an initial inspection suggested the latest debris had fallen from the statue following high winds and freezing temperatures, and a more detailed examination would take place next Monday.

    The Grade II listed column is 133 feet high (40.5m) and was the highest column of its kind in England when it was built.
