    Firefighters say a large fire on hillside in Shropshire appears to be a "controlled burn" and is under control.

    They sent two fire engines to Ashes Hollow on the Long Mynd, near Church Stretton at 15:00, but said they will just monitor the fire and were not trying to put it out.

    Officers have seized cannabis with a street value of more than £1m in the Redditch area in the first two months of 2019.

    West Mercia Police said around 1,000 plants were found in raids at industrial units and another address in the town.

    Cannabis valued at £100,000 was discovered in a vehicle stopped in Redditch on 16 February.

    A brother and sister whose father was among the victims of the Birmingham pub bombings have told an inquest how they never got to know him, but he would always be remembered.

    Hearings into the deaths of 21 people in the 1974 bombings reopened this week after a 44-year wait for the bereaved families.

    Paul Davies was 17 when he died alongside his 16-year-old friend Neil Marsh in the Mullberry Bush pub.

    His daughter Michelle Sealey paid tribute to their handsome father who would "never be forgotten". He loved martial arts and reggae music, especially Bob Marley, she said.

    "After hearing stories about him, I remember I would daydream about him being around, and what kind of relationship we would have had," she said.

    Son Paul Bridgwater said he'd never had the opportunity of meeting his father, who was "killed three months before I was born".

    "It makes me very sad that he never got to see me... or his granddaughter."

    Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips has called on the prime minister to "do a brave thing" and vote against a no-deal Brexit.

    Speaking in a Brexit debate at the House of Commons, she said she felt "so enraged with the complete and utter lack of bravery to do the right thing for our country".

    Gesturing towards her fellow MPs she asked Theresa May to "do once what is best for the country, not what is best for any of us".

    Plans for a new three-storey medical centre in Telford are set to go on display.

    The new building on Brandon Avenue would replace the existing medical centre on Acorn Way, Shawbirch (pictured below).

    The MP of an area where a teenager was stabbed to death has requested an urgent meeting with police chiefs to help tackle rising violent crime.

    Hazrat Umar, 17, died in Bordesley Green on Monday.

    Shabana Mahmood, Labour MP for Birmingham Ladywood, said: "Our communities need assurances that measures are being put in place to work with local communities to prevent any further appalling incidents from happening.

    "The rising violent crime, and particularly knife crime, we have seen in recent weeks and months across Birmingham is extremely concerning."

    The Unite union said it has called off Wednesday's planned industrial action as a "gesture of goodwill to the people of Birmingham".

    More than 300 workers have begun action two days a week over "secret payments" made to non-striking GMB staff after industrial action in 2017.

    The council has reiterated the payments were "properly made for a failure to consult during the talks that ended the 2017 dispute".

    Unite said the break would give the city council a chance to seek a resolution with the union as talks continue through the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas).

    Strike dates are still planned for 28 February and 4, 8, 12, 13, 21, 22 March.

    The people in charge of Birmingham's roads have apologised after a blocked gully caused severe congestion in this morning's rush hour.

    Tailbacks of three-miles long were reported after Amey was forced to close the Holloway underpass in the city centre.

    "Unexpected blockages" to the drainage system found during overnight work caused localised flooding within the tunnel, the firm said.

    "We recognise the time taken to resolve the situation and reopen the road was unacceptable," it said, adding it was working to make sure it doesn't happen again.

    Further work on the tunnel is expected this evening.

    Two people have been charged with murdering a woman who has been missing since 2013.

    The pair have also been charged with preventing her lawful burial and fraudulently claiming her benefits payments.

    Lisa Bennett, 39, from Burton-upon-Trent, but believed to have been living in Selly Oak, was reported missing by her mother in May 2013.

    Kevin Flanagan, 39, of Redbrook Covert, Kings Norton, and 40-year-old Kathleen Salmond, of Farnhurst Road, Hodge Hill, both face three charges of murder, fraud and preventing burial.

    At Birmingham Crown Court today they were bailed and a provisional trial date set of 2 September.
