    Staff at hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford have raised concerns about safety and bullying in an NHS England survey., external

    The study was carried out last September and received responses from 45% of staff at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

    Since 2015, the percentage of staff who say they've experienced at least one incident of bullying, harrassment or abuse from managers has increased year on year from 10% to around 14%, although that figure is in line with the national average.

    Meanwhile, just half of the respondents said they'd be happy with the standard of care provided by staff should a friend or relative need treatment there.

    The trust, which is currently in special measures, said: "These results are clearly not what we would aspire to achieve and are something that we need to address as a priority."

    Last summer the trust said it was working to address concerns about bullying and has said work has taken place since then to improve conditions for staff.

    Sandwell Council has elected a new leader to replace Steve Eling who resigned last month after being suspended by the Labour Party.

    Councillor Steve Trow (pictured below) said he is "very honoured and rather humbled" to be voted into the position.

    Councillor Eling is facing an internal investigation by Labour after a complaint was made against him but is continuing to serve Abbey ward.

    Ten new fire engines have been bought for stations across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, costing the area's fire service £2.5m.

    Demolition work will soon start on Hereford's First World War shell store, which was once the biggest single-span building in Europe.

    The site at Rotherwas produced thousands of shells for the allied troops during both world wars and £7.3m is being spent to turn it into a centre for up to 25 new enterprises.

    The new businesses will work alongside the new Hereford University, and the project is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Herefordshire Council and the Marches Investment Fund.

    Car giants Toyota and BMW have both warned a no-deal Brexit threatens the production of their cars in the UK.

    A final decision on whether to transfer some production of engines from Hams Hall, in Coleshill near Birmingham to Austria has not yet been taken, the company said.

    The motor industry has become increasingly outspoken on the consequences of a no-deal as the 29 March approaches.

    Warwickshire-based Aston Martin's chief executive Andy Palmer last week warned of "a bloodbath" for the industry.

    About 80 knives have been seized by officers carrying out stop and search powers in Birmingham in recent weeks.

    The rise in knife crime has prompted calls for police to stop and search more teenagers.

    West Midlands Police officers have implemented "Section 60" a number of times over the past fortnight, allowing officers in a specific area to search anyone for weapons without having reasonable grounds to do so.

    Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said the force had been reducing its use and were now carrying-out more "intelligence-led" investigations.

    "It's a vital tool for the police but it's a tool that has to be used sensibly and properly, otherwise it can cause more problems than it solves," he said.

    Plans for a £50 million redevelopment of a Shropshire estate, which used to belong to the Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing, will go before council planners next week.

    The new owners, FCFM, wants to 275 wooden lodges at Astbury Hall, near Bridgnorth, along with a spa, restaurant facilities, two swimming pools, a bar and tennis courts, plus the golf course.

    The driver of a coach has been taken to hospital after a crash with a hedge near Hinstock in Shropshire this lunchtime.

    West Midlands Ambiance Service said it was called at 13:25 and the man, who is in his 50s, was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital to be assessed.

    Telford Tigers say they want to play in the new British ice hockey division when it starts next season.

    The new division will sit below the Elite League and above the National leagues which they play in at the moment and the club called it "an exciting challenge".

    Details of the structure of the new division have yet to be agreed, but a number of other clubs have also expressed an interest in being part of it, including the Sheffield Steeldogs and the Swindon Wildcats.
