    The Conservative MP for Shrewsbury says Jeremy Hunt or Dominic Raab could be good party leaders.

    Theresa May has said she plans to remain as leader and Prime Minister until the next general election, but when asked about the issue on BBC Five Live this morning, Daniel Kawcxynski said both men "have the right characteristics to be very good, effective leaders of the Conservative party."

    He also said "I have spent quite a bit of time with both gentleman and I think both of them, although with different attributes and different qualities and experiences."

    Talk of increasing members' basic allowances has "come at the wrong time", a Birmingham City councillor says.

    An independent panel has suggested the amount they receive should be increased by 4% to more than £17,000.

    Labour councillor Majid Mahmood said: "I think that at a time of savage cuts to the local council and proposals to cut the pay of already low-paid female workers who are our homecare workers, it's come at the wrong time".

    The council needs to save £46m from its budget in the next financial year.

    The flood barriers in Ironbridge have now been dismantled but the Environment Agency says the risk of flooding along other parts of the River Severn still remains.

    Five flood warnings, external are still in place in Shropshire, along with flood alerts for Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

    The Environment Agency says the River Severn in Ironbridge has risen by over four metres and the number of tonnes of water passing by every second has risen from 25 to 370.

    Dozens of floral tributes have been left to pay tribute to two brothers who died in a car crash in Wolverhampton.

    Pawanveer Singh, aged 23 months, and brother Sanjay, 10, were with their mother in the family's BMW, turning right off Birmingham New Road into Lawnswood Avenue, when it was involved in a collision with an Audi S3 at about 20:45 GMT on Thursday.

    Sanjay was described as "the life and soul of the class" by Claire Williams, the head teacher at Cotwall End Primary School in Dudley.

    Two men have been arrested and released under investigation in connection with the crash.

    More than 20,000 illegal cigarettes have been seized from a shop by trading standards officers/

    The Transilvania shop – also known as the Romanian shop – on Merridale Street West, Graiseley, was raided in November when a haul of 1,027 packets each containing 20 cigarettes was found.

    The cigarettes were discovered behind the counter, in a room above the shop and also in a vehicle parked outside.

    The council is to meet later to discuss suspending or removing the shop's premises licence.

  18. Norovirus outbreak shuts two wardspublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2019

    Two wards at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital have had to be closed after five cases of norovirus were reported.

    The hospital says its working to control the spread of the diarrhoea and vomiting bug and is asking visitors to stay away unless its absolutely necessary.
