    A police incident involving an unexploded bomb shell in Stechford is now over, Network West Midlands is reporting.

    Stechford Road was closed off for a time after the device, believed to be an unexploded World War Two shell, was found.

    The travel company said the roads have now reopened.

  2. Unexploded bomb discovered during highways workspublished at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2019

    The unexploded bomb that's been discovered close to a Birmingham retail park was found at the Iron Lane Highways Scheme, a city councillor has said.

    Stechford Retail Park has been evacuated this afternoon, along with some nearby homes.

    The A4040 Stechford Lane is also closed in both directions from Manor Road to Cotterills Lane.

  3. Unexploded bomb 'from World War Two'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2019

    The unexploded bomb found at Stechford Retail Park is believed to date back to World War Two, police said.

    A 100-metre cordon has been put in place and bomb disposal officers have been called to assess the scene.

    Buses are being diverted away from the area.

  4. Man dies and women seriously injured in crashpublished at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2019

    One man has died and two women have been seriously injured following a crash in Warwickshire.

    The ambulance service said crews arrived at the scene, on Coleshill Road, Atherstone at about 01:50 to find a car in a ditch.

    One occupant, a man, was confirmed dead at the scene.

    The driver and a second passenger were taken to hospital.

    Part of a retail park and nearby homes have been evacuated after the discovery of an unexploded shell in Birmingham, police say.

    Officers, who were initially called to Stechford Retail Park, Flaxley Parkway at 12:15, have also closed a section of the A4040.

    Allegations of racist abuse aimed at a Leyton Orient player during their match with AFC Telford United at the weekend are being investigated, the Shropshire club's confirmed today.

    In a statement, the club , externalsays it's had several reports about a a fan directing abuse at one of Orient's players as well as of several supporters throwing objects onto the pitch.

    It says it won't tolerate bad behaviour by supporters and the incidents have been reported to the FA.

    AFC Telford adds that it'll share information with the police and the Metropolitan Police force has tweeted , externalthat it's aware of what's happened during the game and is already working with West Mercia Police.

    The saxophonist with UB40, Brian Travers, has been diagnosed with a brain tumour forcing him to pull out of the band's 40th anniversary tour.

    Scans revealed the founder member of the band, first formed in Birmingham, has two tumours after he suffered a seizure at home.

    He'll undergo surgery on the day the tour was due to begin.

    The owner of a Staffordshire wildlife centre says staff there are "devastated" after a number of animals died in a fire.

    Three giant tortoises, a meerkat and a colony of fruit bats were all killed at Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, Eccleshall, in the blaze this morning.

    Staffordshire Fire Service said it believed the fire at the small sanctuary had been started by accident.

    Jenny Morgan, from the centre, says they're "so grateful" to a person who called the blaze in promptly as, if left to develop, it "could have been much worse".

    Ms Morgan said the centre would remain closed today and it was hoped to reopen the site on Wednesday.

    A couple who've tried to buy Port Vale three times in the past say they'll be contacting the club to discuss its future after owner Norman Smurthwaite said he'd put it into administration.

    Smurthwaite told BBC Radio Stoke he will only fund Vale up to 5 May, as a result of supporter protests about his running of the League Two club.

    He claims that as much as £600,000 will be needed to keep the club going until the start of next season and, if a buyer isn't found by his deadline, he'll put it into administration.

    Carol and Kevin Shanahan have this morning told BBC Radio Stoke that it's not in the best interests of anyone connected with Port Vale for that to happen.

    The pair own Stoke-on-Trent-based IT company Synectics Solutions and have made a trio of efforts to buy the Vale since the start of February.

    Drivers are being warned about a road closure which will last for four weeks.

    Chapel Lane in Great Barr is shut for improvement works to be carried out by South Staffordshire Water.

    Drivers will be diverted along Sutton Road and Beacon Road - while access to Chapel Lane will be granted to residents only.
