Centres to improve language skills agreedpublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 9 April 2019
Two schemes to help improve the language and communication skills of children are to be set up in the West Midlands.
Eight schemes will be set up nationally, including in Wolverhampton and Staffordshire, after the £6.5m funding was agreed by government.
Health visitors and early years staff will be trained to identify children with poor language and communication skills to make sure the right support is in place so they don’t fall behind.
Education Secretary Damian Hinds said he wants to halve the proportion of children who finish reception without the communication, language and literacy skills needed to thrive within the next decade.
