    Dozens of people took part in a protest at the weekend against proposed bus cuts in Shropshire

    Shropshire Council has said it has to cut its public transport budget by £405,000 and has launched a consultation.

    Tim Hughes wrote: "The answer to this is not to cut buses or raise prices, the buses need to be filled to make a route cost effective. Decreasing the cost of a ticket would promote use, and fill the bus doubling profits."

    Susan Coleman posted: "It’s not the £2 we’re objecting to as costs do rise, it’s the cutting of the concessions as this will reduce shoppers and more shops will close."

    Emma Louise Lewis wrote: "If the services were used enough they wouldn’t cut them. You can’t run a business with no customers."

    A West Midlands Police officer who was filmed jumping on a trampoline while on duty is to face an inquiry into his behaviour.

    Supt Jenny Skyrme, from the Force Response team said: "We expect our officers to have the highest standards in their conduct and behaviour and sadly, this appears to fall short of that.

    "Our Professional Standards Department have been informed who will review the matter to determine if there is a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour."

  4. Attempted murder arrests as man hit by carpublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 29 April 2019

    Four men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a pedestrian was struck by a car near Crewe.

    The 38-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening.

    A 21-year-old remains in police custody after the incident on Rosemary Drive in Shavington on Friday afternoon.

    A 27-year old, who was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving, and a 34-year-old man have both been released under investigation.

    Another man, 24, has been released with no further action.

    Police are continuing to investigate a triple stabbing in Wolverhampton.

    Officers were called to North Street near to Wolverhampton Civic Hall where two injured men were found on the floor early on Sunday morning.

    They were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where they are in a serious but stable condition.

    A third man also sustained minor injuries.

    Paddy Igoe, from Earlsdon, was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder, which requires frequent blood transfusions.

    The charity DKMS - ran the bone marrow screening days at Wasps' match against Saracens on Saturday and Coventry City's match against Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.

    About 1,100 people volunteered to be tested as a donor match.

  7. Coventry City: 'Oggy' honoured in last home gamepublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 29 April 2019

    Coventry City legend Steve Ogrizovic received a standing ovation at the Ricoh Arena at his last home match before retiring.

    The player, known as Oggy, played 601 times for the Sky Blues and went on to be goalkeeping coach during a 35-year association with the club.

    He was given a guard of honour before the game against Shrewsbury Town.

    The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

    Black cab drivers are to stage their latest protest against proposed clean air zone charges in Birmingham.

    Motorists with high-polluting cars will have to pay £8 to enter the city centre after the government approved the city's clean air zone (CAZ) plan.

    But taxi drivers are upset at a £5,000 offer from the council to upgrade their cabs and want further talks.

    The council has pledged £15m to help them.

    Performances of a children's play have been cancelled after a tour van containing staging, props and costumes was stolen.

    Dear Zoo, based on the books by Rod Campbell, had been touring theatres all over the UK and was due in Worcestershire on Sunday.

    Producer Chris Davis said the Mercedes truck containing £50,000 worth of goods was stolen in Peterborough on Saturday morning.

    Performances of the play at the Atrix Arts Centre, Bromsgrove on 28 and 29 April have been cancelled, the venue said.

    Part of a Birmingham hotel had to be evacuated on Sunday after a incident involving swimming pool chemicals.

    Guests staying on the ground floor at the Marriott Hotel in the city were asked to leave the building whilst fire crews dealt with a "small amount of gas".

    Crews were called to the scene shortly before 16:00 and visitors were allowed back into the Hagley Road premises at about 18:50.

    Thousands of people spent Sunday at the Vaisakhi celebrations in Birmingham.

    Processions made their way from Smethwick and Hockley to Handsworth Park where a free community event was held.

    The gathering included Sikh cultural activities, a children's play area and arts and crafts exhibitions.

    The event celebrating the birth of Sikh Khalsa had an area for worship, Darbar, that was open to all communities to visit and understand the Sikh faith.

    Food was prepared by various Gurdwaras from across Birmingham and the Black Country.
