    Two men have been arrested after residents were woken up by the sound of lead being stolen from their roof.

    They used a police dog to track potential suspects and arrested two men, aged 29 and 31, who are still in custody.

    The route of the 2019 Tour of Britain's been revealed today, including when it's hosted in Worcestershire and travels from Warwickshire.

    It'll begin on 7 September in Glasgow, as the first two days of Britain's biggest professional cycling race take place in Scotland for the first time.

    The opening stage, a 201.5km race to Kirkcudbright, is the longest in the race that also goes to Newcastle.

    Worcestershire hosts stage six before the race moves to its penultimate 186.5km stage starting in Warwick and ending with three ascents of the Burton Dassett climb.

    Manchester will host the event for the first time in 15 years when it finishes on Deansgate on 14 September.

    A man has been found guilty of raping a teenage girl who was trafficked to Birmingham and abused.

    Ghamer Sulayman, 23, of Mercia Drive, Birmingham, was convicted of rape and two counts of human trafficking at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Wednesday.

    He was cleared of a third count of human trafficking.

    Ayad Hizam, 21, of Bridgecroft, Birmingham, was cleared of four charges of child abduction and four of sexual activity with a child.

    Saleh Qasem, 20, of Poplar Avenue, Runcorn Road, Birmingham, was also cleared of sexual assault and trafficking.

    The offences involving the girl, who was 15 at the time, took place between February and July 2016.

    The Newcastle and Stafford College Group's said it's had planning permission from Stafford Borough Council to demolish buildings on its existing campus on Broad Street, Stafford.

    It'll then replace them with a Skill and Innovation Hub which will include laboratories, training facilities, a sports hall an a 300-seat auditorium.

    The college is expecting to finish that by 2022 and relocate staff from its current centre on Palmbourne Industrial Estate, so all Stafford-based courses are on the same site.

  10. 'Lost' Beatles and Tom Jones performances to be screenedpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 29 May 2019

    Top of the Pops performances of The Beatles, Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones are to be shown for the first time in more than 50 years.

    The footage, thought to have been wiped from archives, was donated by music enthusiast David Chandler as part of a campaign to find the Top 100 Lost TV shows.

    Experts have digitally remastered the footage and enhanced the sound so the clips can be shown to a new audience at Birmingham City University on Saturday 1 June.

    The special screening will feature talks from industry experts as well as TV and music enthusiasts.

    Robert McLaughlin from the university said: “Top of the Pops was a major part of the UK’s cultural heritage, led the television industries through a number of ground-breaking initiatives, and was an institution that helped shape the careers, aspirations and dreams of musicians across the globe."

    The British Film Institute and Kaleidoscope, which specialises in finding lost video and TV shows, launched a campaign to find the Top 100 Lost TV shows. Number two on that list was Top of the Pops.

    The number of people being stopped and searched by West Mercia Police has more than halved in the past four years, latest figures have revealed.

    BBC Hereford and Worcester's obtained the statistics which show there were 3,764 checks in 2018-19 compared to 8,465 in 2015-16.

    Earlier this year, Home Secretary Sajid Javid gave police across the country greater stop and search powers to tackle rising knife crime.

    West Mercia Police said they've increased the scrutiny of their use of the tactic to make sure they're delivering the best possible service.

  16. Bailiffs 'used thousands of times' to collect council taxpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 29 May 2019

    Bailiffs were called in by Solihull Council to deal with almost 7,000 cases in the last financial year.

    In more than 6,100 cases, the officers dealt with unpaid council tax, a Freedom of Information (FoI) request has revealed.

    Up to 550 cases related to Solihull Community Housing and 240 instances of unpaid business rates.

    The council declined to give details of how much had been recovered by them, claiming the figures were "commercially sensitive".

    Last summer, Parliament’s Treasury Committee voiced concerns about councils using bailiffs to chase outstanding debts.

    At a meeting on Tuesday, councillors heard that 98.09% of council tax was collected in the last year, one of the highest for a metropolitan borough council.
