  2. Police raid suspected 'chop shop'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    Police have raided a suspected "chop shop" in Burntwood, where they believe stolen vehicles were being broken down and stripped for parts.

    Officers said they found a stolen Ford Fiesta, a number of transit vans and various vehicle parts when they searched the building yesterday morning.

    Staffordshire Police says it has seen a rise in car thefts across the county in recent months, especially expensive vehicles.

    Up to 11,000 vehicles are expected at the RAF Cosford Air Show on Sunday and West Mercia Police says the surrounding roads are likely to be busy again, with some closures also planned., external

    There are several car parks at the airfield, with spaces for cars, motorbikes and some small campervans and full details about the parking arrangements can be found at the air show website., external

    There will be a one-way system into the airfield until 13:00, so people wanting to drop off passengers are being advised to leave them at the BP garage on the A41.

    West Midlands Trains is putting on a number of extra trains during the afternoon, and the air show says people can also cycle to the airfield if they want to.

    In case you were considering it... air show organisers say people aren't allowed to turn up in their own aircraft, unless its been arranged in advance.

  4. Misbehaving councillors to be named and shamedpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    Herefordshire Council has been ordered to release the details of cases involving former councillors who misbehaved while in office.

    The Information Commissioner made the ruling after the council refused to release details of nine complaints upheld since 2012, requested under the information under the Freedom of Information act.

    She said she made the ruling in the interests of accountability and transparency.

  5. Flooding shuts lane on M6published at 17:40 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    A lane on the M6 southbound is closed at J8 near Wednesbury due to flooding on the carriageway, Highways England is warning.

    Congestion is backing up to J10A for the M54.

    The incident is close to the scene of yesterday's crash that brought the motorway to a halt for several hours.

  6. Listeria deaths linked to sandwichespublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    The deaths of three people from an outbreak of listeria has been linked to sandwiches supplied by a company in Staffordshire.

    The Good Food Chain, which is based on the Stone Business Park, has voluntarily ceased production and sandwiches and salads linked to the outbreak have been withdrawn from sale.

    Public Health England said The Good Food Chain had been supplied with meat produced by North Country Cooked Meats which subsequently produced a positive test result for the outbreak strain of listeria.

    The Good Food Chain confirmed that its production facility was "cross contaminated by an ingredient from one of its approved meat suppliers".

    It said it had an "excellent reputation for food safety and quality" and it would use the temporary closure to "eradicate the issue and ensure it can continue to supply a safe product to customers and consumers".

    The BBC has also approached North Country Cooked Meats for comment.

  7. Supporters group fears for future of Coventry Citypublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    The chair of the Sky Blue Trust supporters group says he fears for the future of Coventry City, after hearing they'll be playing at Birmingham City's stadium next season.

    The club has reluctantly agreed to groundshare after failing to come to an agreement with the owners of the Ricoh Arena and Moz Baker said he only expected "a small number of people to attend" the games at St Andrew's.

    Recalling the time Coventry City had to play games in Northampton, Mr Baker said: "I think a lot of people have vowed that they wouldn't move out of the city with the club again, if this was to happen."

    The Football League says the club has promised it won't permanently relocate to anywhere outside the Coventry area.

  8. Dozens of shops take part in Fiver Festpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    Shoppers in Stoke-on-Trent are being encouraged to spend £5 in the city this weekend, to help boost local businesses.

    Nearly 40 shops, restaurants, cafes and market stalls in Hanley are also putting on offers as part of Fiver Fest, external, a national campaign to support independent traders.

    A programme to get rough sleepers and people with mental health problems off the streets has been given the go-ahead by Sandwell Council bosses.

    Sandwell Council’s cabinet has approved a pilot scheme of £935,137 to create 55 tenancies over four years as part of the region wide Housing First project.

    The project is being funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority and will offer supported housing to people who are either homeless or at risk of losing their accommodation.

    Along with rough sleepers and those suffering mental illness it will also help victims of domestic abuse, drug and alcohol addicts and ex-offenders.

    The owners of a Shropshire village pub say they'll be moving out today, after being served with an enforcement notice by Telford and Wrekin Council

    The local authority said the building had been converted into a home without permission and told John Hickinbottom and Susan King to either reopen it as a pub or leave.

    The Cleveland Arms closed in 2016 and the pair said it was because the building was structurally unsound and doesn't comply with fire safety regulations.

    But the council said it was unsafe as a result of work they had carried out, which involved removing a bar and part of the ground-floor interior.

    The pub itself is now up for sale.

  14. Woman robbed in her home by teenspublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    An elderly woman was robbed by two teenage distraction burglars, who entered her Nuneaton home, police say.

    After knocking at her door, on the Long Shoot on Wednesday, the two pretended to know her and entered the house before stealing her purse and cash.

    Officers believe the male was about 17 years old and a girl was aged about 14.

    Warwickshire Police is asking for anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour in the area to come forward.

  15. Free car park closed because drivers ignored closurespublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    Stone Town Council say it can no longer run a free car park in the town, because drivers have ignored temporary closures.

    The authority had an agreement with the police that it could use the Northesk Street site, as long it was clear when there were viewings at the police station building, which is up for sale.

    But the council says drivers have damaged and removed the barriers it put in place while viewings were taking place, so its handed the car park back to Staffordshire Police.

    Thousands are expected in Coventry this weekend to celebrate at the city's Pride Festival.

    The theme for the festival this year is superheroes of pride, encouraging everyone to celebrate the superhero within them, and diversity in all its forms, said organisers.

    Events start on Saturday with a walking parade, and include an appearance from ex-Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle.

    An LGBT church service will be held on Sunday in University Square.

    Last week, Birmingham City Council was granted a High Court Injunction banning protesters from gathering outside the Anderton Park Primary School gates - saying it was needed to protect pupils and staff.

    The West Midlands mayor, Andy Street, says he is seeking a meeting with the Department for Education and also hopes a resolution can be found between the school and parents.
