    A former school in Shrewsbury, which opened in 1813, has been put up for sale for £1.1m.

    The three-storey Lancasterian School stopped teaching in 1988 and was used as administrative offices for the nearby prison until the jail closed in 2013.

    Agents Towler Shaw Roberts, who are also managing the sale of the former Dana Prison, said the school building came with planning permission to build 19 apartments.

    A Canadian forward, nicknamed the "Brolldozer" for his hard-hitting style of play, has been signed by Coventry Blaze for the new Elite League season.

    David Broll has played nearly 300 games in the American Hockey League for teams including the Toronto Marlies, Syracruse Crunch and Laval Rockets, and racked up nearly 600 penalty minutes in that time.

    Head coach Danny Stewart said: "We wanted to add some size and presence up-front and he does that."

    But he said the 26-year-old can also "possess the puck, and has a very good skill set."

    A £10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for the attempted murder of a boy in Wolverhampton.

    The 16-year-old was shot in the head in Graiseley Street in the Penn Fields area on 6 May. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

    At the time of the incident, witnesses spoke of a large group of people in the street and then a number of shots being heard, said Crimestoppers.

    The charity said the "shocking" incident "would affect this young person for many years to come and has unsettled the local community".

    The £10,000 reward is valid until 10 September, it said.

    The number of children permanently excluded from Shropshire schools has taken a big jump in the last two academic years.

    Between 2014-15 and 2016-17 it ranged between 37 and 46 a year, but last year the figure was up to 70 and another 72 have been expelled so far this academic year.

    The majority of those excluded children were secondary school children, but they also included between nine and 14 primary school children in each year.

    It has led to an increase in the number of pupils being taught at home, online.

  10. Four seriously hurt after police pursuit crashpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    A driver who failed to stop for police during a pursuit has suffered life-threatening injuries after the car crashed with two others in Birmingham.

    A woman and two men in one of the vehicles were also seriously injured, police said.

    A Seat Ibiza failed to stop on Middleton Hall Road, close to the junction with Northfield Road, Cotteridge, at about 22:20, and was found a short time later having crashed with a VW Fox and a Jaguar XF.

    The road was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

    West Midlands Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

  13. Up to 100 graves vandalised on Father's Daypublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    Up to 100 graves at a church in Evesham, including some belonging to children, were vandalised in the early hours of Father's Day.

    Flowers and ornaments were knocked over, gravel was dug up and grave markers were broken at St Andrew's church in Pershore Road.

    More than 60 volunteers turned out to clean up afterwards and the Reverend Mark Binney said "it looked like the effects of a big storm".

    "You just don't understand how someone can do it," he added.

  14. Worcester flood reporting rubbished by Environment Agencypublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    The Environment Agency's Dave Throup has called reports that Worcester has been "cut off" by flooding "irresponsible and inaccurate".

    He highlighted reports saying the city was "almost completely cut off by floodwater" and reported swans swimming through the streets.
