A 16-year-old boy who saved a man’s life after he had been stabbed twice, external has won the Outstanding Young Citizen award, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has announced.
Army Cadet Nasim Ahmed was volunteering at a charity dinner in Small Heath, Birmingham, when he was alerted to an attack in the car park, the PCC's office said.
The victim had been stabbed after confronting a car thief. Nasim grabbed a medical kit from the venue and applying pressure to stem the flow of bleeding, he tended to two six-inch-deep knife wounds.
Paramedics then drove the victim to hospital for emergency treatment.
Nasim said: "I am deeply honoured with knowing that my actions ensured that the victim survived such a horrific incident."
West Midlands PCC David Jamieson said his actions "showed bravery beyond his years".
"His courage and first aid skills were crucial in saving a man’s life," Mr Jamieson said.
"Without Nasim’s intervention, the story may have been very different."
