  1. Boy wins award after saving stabbed man's lifepublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 12 July 2019

    A 16-year-old boy who saved a man’s life after he had been stabbed twice, external has won the Outstanding Young Citizen award, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has announced.

    Army Cadet Nasim Ahmed was volunteering at a charity dinner in Small Heath, Birmingham, when he was alerted to an attack in the car park, the PCC's office said.

    The victim had been stabbed after confronting a car thief. Nasim grabbed a medical kit from the venue and applying pressure to stem the flow of bleeding, he tended to two six-inch-deep knife wounds.

    Paramedics then drove the victim to hospital for emergency treatment.

    Nasim said: "I am deeply honoured with knowing that my actions ensured that the victim survived such a horrific incident."

    West Midlands PCC David Jamieson said his actions "showed bravery beyond his years".

    "His courage and first aid skills were crucial in saving a man’s life," Mr Jamieson said.

    "Without Nasim’s intervention, the story may have been very different."

    A mother-of-one said she had her "life back" after becoming the first patient at a hospital to have a brain tumour removed through her nose.

    Jackie Llewellyn-Robinson said the operation at University Hospital, Coventry "saved her sight".

    The 48-year-old said it was "amazing" how quickly she had been able to "bounce back" from the surgery.

    Surgeon, Professor Amjad Shad, who operated on her said the procedure is "at the cutting edge of neurosurgery".

    Mrs Lewellyn-Robinson, a Jaguar Land Rover employee from Kenilworth, first experienced dizziness and blurred vision in early 2017 and a MRI scan revealed the tumour.

    She underwent the procedure earlier this year and only afterwards was told it had been a hospital first.

    Midfielder Luiz (pictured), 21, has been on loan at Girona for the past two seasons and has never played for City.

    Villa believe he will be granted a work permit despite being denied one at the start of last season.

    They also hope to complete a £7m move for Reims' Belgium Under-21 defender Bjorn Engels.

    A deal has yet to be agreed for the 24-year-old centre-back, but talks are ongoing.

    The West Bromwich East MP (pictured) criticised Labour and Ms Formby, a close ally of Jeremy Corbyn, following a BBC Panorama investigation.

    Ms Formby said he risked "exacerbating" fears in the Jewish community.

    She acknowledged anti-Semitism was a "real problem" in the party but said steps had been taken to tackle it.

    Two women have been seriously hurt by a dog which attacked them this morning.

    They were on Neale Close, Bulkington, near Coventry, Warwickshire, when the ambulance said it happened, at about 11:00.

    Warwickshire Police said the dog which attacked them, a bullmastiff, has been seized.

    A man's been jailed for life for the murder of his wife and been told he'll serve a minimum of more than 18 years in prison.

    Today, Phillip Gyde, 59, of Burton-upon-Trent, was found guilty of murdering 52-year-old Susan Gyde at their home on St Chads Road.

    There are reports of major delays on a retail park in Shrewsbury, with some drivers saying it's taking up to 35 minutes to move just 10 feet.

    The Meole Brace retail park features stores operated by Sainsbury's, TK Maxx, Next, Boots, Costa, Curry's, Halfords, Argos and M&S Food, among others, and is one of the busiest in Shrewsbury.

    It's thought the problems may be down to roadworks taking place on the retail park itself.

    Shropshire Council says it is not responsible for the roadworks, but is sending a team down there to try to help get people moving again.

    A hospital's going to get 72 new beds after £23.6m was secured to replace a 1940s hospital wards with a modern building.

    The old hutted wards at Hereford County Hospital were heavily used during World War Two , externaland stood until last year when they were demolished, external.

    This week, Wye Valley NHS Trust revealed it had secured the cash to build the new wards from NHS managers.

    When they're constructed, they'll contain 72 beds, 34 more than the old hutted wards had for inpatients.
