Warwickshire County Council said it was contacted by Milverton House School yesterday and that parents had also been given letters to explain the situation.
The council is now directing parents to state school alternatives and offering advice on admissions.
The school has been approached for a comment by the BBC, and the Department for Education says that as it is a private school, it is not involved.
Yanek Kowal pulled the 18-year-old to safety, but was unable to rescue a 21-year-old man.

The Australian batsman Travis Head has warmed up for the second Ashes Test with a century against Worcestershire at New Road today.

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to cause disruption across the West Midlands later this week.
On Friday, the Met Office says there'll be a band of heavy rain, followed by heavy showers or thunderstorms, travelling across the area all day. , external
That's followed by strong winds throughout Saturday and, in both cases, a yellow weather warning for disruption's been issued.

A man's been badly hurt in a house fire today.
The victim, in his 20s, was airlifted to hospital after the blaze on Stamps Close, Winshill, Burton-upon-Trent, , externalStaffordshire Fire Service said.
Fire crews were called just before 11:00 and are now investigating what caused it.

Shrewsbury Town will be without their new defender Aaron Pierre for four games, because he's been called up to play for Grenada.
He'll be involved in their squad for the Concacaf Nations League qualifiers, between September and November, and Shrewsbury manager, Sam Ricketts, said: "He's a big player for them and he's very proud to play for them."
But Ricketts said they knew they were likely to lose him for a number of games when they signed him, adding: "He'll be a loss obviously, but it's something we'll just have to accept."
The mayor of Middlesbrough has described Shropshire's Knife Angel sculpture as "massive, terrifying and beautiful".
The 8m (26ft) high statue, which has already visited Birmingham and Coventry, is made of thousands of knives surrendered to or seized by police forces around the country and it's intended to raise awareness of knife crime.
Andy Preston said it was a "massive issue" in his city and hoped the statue, which was made at the British Ironworks Centre near Oswestry, would "play a role in raising awareness and deterring young people from carrying knives".
It is due to be on display in the city's central square for four weeks.
A total of 19 people have now been arrested following disorder which left a man critically injured.

Coventry City fans have been assured that the match away to Bolton Wanderers is going ahead this weekend, despite ticket sales being put on hold.
Bolton has been in administration since 13 May and is still waiting for takeover to be completed. It put out a statement this morning to say ticket sales which were due to open at 09:00 had been suspended because of "very recent developments".
The Bolton statement also said: "Please be assured Saturday’s Sky Bet League One game against Coventry City is going ahead."
Coventry have been allocated 1,900 tickets for the League One fixture with fans only able to buy them directly from the Bolton website.
Five more arrests have been made by police, external investigating disorder in Stoke-on-Trent.
Emergency services including armed police were called to Milton Street last month and five people were found to have been hurt.
One of the victims was stabbed and was in a critical condition in hospital, but recovered to a stable condition. , external
The five men were arrested this morning on suspicion of committing violent disorder and are still in custody.
In total, 19 people have been arrested in the investigation, and the other 14 were released on bail.
