    Young offender institutions in England and Wales fail to provide necessary support for children to succeed in life after custody, a report has found.

    The inspectors assessed the country's five sites, including Staffordshire, between October and March, looking at the cases of 50 offenders.

    In many cases, secure accommodation is not lined up, while mental health support, education and employment are often not arranged, the prison and probation inspectorates said.

    Penal reformers said children were being "set up to fail".

    The government said it was reviewing resettlement services at YOIs.

    Artwork inspired by Peaky Blinders and created by fans of the TV show is going to be used to promote the upcoming fifth series.

    The BBC invited anyone to submit posters and, from the 1,000 sent in, 16 have been picked for the campaign.

    The artists will be paid £1,000 and their work used from 12 August on every BBC platform to promote the fifth series.

    The latest instalment of Peaky Blinders, which is set in Birmingham, will take place against the turmoil of the 1929 financial crash and will air on BBC One.

    Leicestershire captain Colin Ackermann set a new T20 world record with bowling figures of 7-18 in their victory against Birmingham Bears.

    Off-spinner Ackermann, 28, led the Foxes to a 55-run win which also boosted their quarter-final chances.

    His figures surpassed the previous best of 6-5 in 22 balls by Somerset's Arul Suppiah against Glamorgan in 2011.

    Victory for Leicestershire lifted them to fourth in the North Group and above Birmingham who sit a point behind and with a game in hand in sixth.

  14. Would Telford be most affected by a Brexit no-deal?published at 18:46 British Summer Time 7 August 2019

    The towns and cities that export most to the EU could also be most affected by a possible no-deal Brexit - and Telford is top of that list, a Centre for Cities studies found, external, earlier this year.

    According to its research, 59% of goods exports from Telford went to EU countries in 2017, more than any other UK town or city.

    And 70% of its total exports, taking the service sector into account, went to the EU.

    The Centre for Cities, which describes itself as a "think tank dedicated to improving performance of UK city economies" and is funded by, external a number of universities, councils, charities and companies.

    It said at the time: "Cities export three times more to the EU than they do to the USA and 20 times more than they do to China. To mitigate the impact of a 10% drop in EU trade, British cities would need to double trade with China or increase trade with the USA by one third."

  15. Resurfacing work to take place at night after complaintspublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 7 August 2019

    Roadworks along the A49 in Herefordshire are going to be carried out overnight from now on, following complaints from nearby businesses and residents.

    More than 100 people attended a meeting earlier in the week to protest, saying the diversions were harming trade and making life difficult.

    Some said they had lost "thousands of pounds" in trade over just a few days.

    Highways England started the resurfacing between Peterstow and the junction at Harewood End , externalon 22 July and had decided to carry out the work during the day after talking to Herefordshire Council, in the belief people living nearby wouldn't like to hear noise at night.

    The organisation, however, today said the changes would be introduced from next week and that the work was due to end on 30 August.

  18. Tudor House museum gets lottery cashpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2019

    The Tudor House museum in Worcester, external has been given £61,000 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

    The money will be spent on restoration work and helping to preserve the building's rare embossed ceiling.

  19. Contractors aim to make collapsed store safe by end of daypublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 7 August 2019

    Work to stabilise the side of Nuneaton's former Co-op building should be complete by the end of the day, contractors say.

    Cawarden has been inspecting the damage today and believes a failure in the roof led to brickwork crashing down on to scaffolding.
