    Some of the residents at a retirement complex largely destroyed by a fire still haven't realised what they've lost, a carer and councillor said.

    Hazel Faddes said the enormity of it all means some of the 150 people who lived at the Beechmere supported living apartments were still coming to terms with it.

    Some have lost all their belongings and memories, she said.

    Fire crews evacuated the centre before the fire swept through the building on Thursday.

    Thousands of pounds has since been raised for residents as 123 homes were destroyed.

    Cheshire East Council said it could take some time to find new, permanent homes for all the residents to meet their specific needs.

    The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham is set to be the first major multi-sports event to have more women's than men's medal events after three sports were added to the programme.

    Women's Twenty20 cricket, beach volleyball and Para-table tennis have been confirmed as additional sports.

    This means there are currently 135 women's medal competitions scheduled, compared to 133 for men.

    Birmingham will also have the largest Commonwealth Para-sport programme.

    A livestock farmer says farming with his organic beef cattle near Bishop's Castle, near Ludlow, can help the environment.

    Scientists this month said switching to a plant-based diet could be better for the planet because beef and lamb produce a significant amount of greenhouse gases.

    More than £4,000 has been raised in about 24 hours for a pony rescue centre devastated by fire.

    A faulty generator was blamed by Staffordshire Fire Service, external for the blaze which swept through Elverra Pony Rescue, near Eccleshall, yesterday morning.

    All the horses, along with two dogs, were led to safety by firefighters but all the stables along with bedding and offices were wiped out.

    The owners said on Facebook, external they face a "mass clean up and rebuilding work".

    Burton Albion travel across Staffordshire to Port Vale, while struggling Stoke City are at Wigan Athletic and fellow Championship side West Bromwich Albion host Millwall.

    The other ties see Coventry City at home to Exeter City, Walsall taking on Crawley Town, Shrewsbury Town hosting Rotherham United and Crewe Alexandra at Middlesbrough.

    The future of a lido could become clearer this morning when a report into the outdoor pool's due to be published.

    In January, Warwick District Council said the Abbey Fields pool in Kenilworth would close permanently and be replaced by a new indoor one.

    Reasons of cost and capacity were given in council reports produced at the time.

    But campaigners criticised the detail in the plans and the nature of the public consultation and it became an election issue with council leader Andrew Mobbs losing his seat in May.

    The new leadership decided to look at the proposals again and are expected to publish their study at 10:00.

    Plans to postpone the expansion of Jaguar Land Rover's plant in Coventry will be discussed by councillors today., external

    The firm is promising to develop the Whitley South site but wants to delay the move to save money.

    Warwick District Councillors will decide whether to support the move, as the land lies just outside the boundary of the city.

    The show, hosted by Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, airs every night at 20:00 BST for five days and encourages people to adopt rescue animals.

    Nearly 150 firearms have been surrendered in the West Midlands Police area as part of a national drive.

    Of those, 15 were deemed "lethal weapons" - ammunition, air weapons and imitation firearms were also turned in.

    The force ran the gun surrender for two weeks, starting on 20 July.

    The weapons will now all be forensically tested before being destroyed, police said.

    A pub in Wolverhampton has lost its licence after a ‘family fun day’ escalated into a mass brawl that left several people injured.

    Police were called to the Dog and Partridge in Broad Street, Bilston, in the early hours of 14 July after reports of gunfire and an attack involving a meat cleaver.

    A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries following the incident.

    Wolverhampton Council’s Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee heard this week the fun day was more of an adult-themed pool party, with noise levels exceeding 70 decibels.

    The Tayleur Arms in Longdon-upon-Tern, near Bratton, Shropshire, had to be demolished when fire swept through the historic building in 2014.

    Richard Harvey and his wife Eve vewed to bring it back and the pub reopened in 2015 after a £1.2m rebuild.

    But the couple announced on Facebook it , externalwould be closed after Thursday night "until further notice" as they had decided not to renew their lease.
