    Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has said their start to the season has been "a real test", but he's not panicking yet.

    His side have been beaten in their two opening games and travel to Wigan tonight to play a League Cup game against Wigan Athletic.

    Jones pointed out both Norwich and Sheffield United started slowly last season.

    "As long as the performances are there and the processes are there, then we'll be fine. And they are," he said.

    People who may have been using suspected loan sharks in Staffordshire are being urged to come forward.

    A meeting is being held on 20 August in Burton-upon-Trent after the England Illegal Money Lending Team raided two buildings in the town last month. , external

    A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of several offences including illegal money lending and released under investigation.

    The team said they understand several Eastern European people had their driving licences, passports and ID cards kept as security against loans and they want to return them and offer support.

    A lorry filled with grain has shed its load across the A38, causing blockages and heavy congestion.

    Grain spilled across both carriageways of the road, near Branston, Staffordshire, as the lorry overturned, just after 11am.

    The lorry was removed later in the afternoon but the barriers are damaged and Highways England said it was still working to clear the grain and carry out repairs., external

  6. Gold-medal winning Paralympian to get honourary degreepublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 13 August 2019

    A Telford Paralympian will be among 14 people being awarded honourary degrees by the University of Wolverhampton next month.

    Mickey Bushell, who won gold at the 2012 games in London, will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Sport alongside Mike Kendrick from Bridgnorth.

    He set up the Virgin Airship and Balloon Company with Sir Richard Branson in 1988.

    Doreen Foster, the Director of Warwick Arts Centre will also be honoured, along with Arten Llazari and Mohammed Mustafa, the founders of the Refugee and Migrant Centre in Birmingham and the Black Country.

    Shrewsbury Town's Shaun Whalley has said tonight's League Cup match against Rotherham United will be "personal" because they're the team that denied them promotion to the Championship two seasons ago.

    Rotherham were relegated the following season and this is the first time the two sides have met since their playoff final at Wembley, which Shrewsbury lost to a goal in extra time.

    More than 53,000 illegal cigarettes, 364.65 kilos of hand-rolling tobacco and 12 litres of alcohol have been seized after raids on 20 shops in Telford and a home in West Bromwich.

    HM Revenue and Customs said it carried out the searches between 5 and 10 August.

    And it calculated more than £100,000 duty and VAT had been evaded.

    Bin collectors in Sandwell say they've suffered racist abuse, threats of violence, road rage incidents and even attempted assaults from residents and car drivers.

    Sandwell Council says it logged 29 physical or verbal attacks in the last year, and one incident resulted in a prosecution.

    The list of incidents includes drivers getting aggressive because they get stuck behind bin lorries, arguments over incorrect items being left in bins and one incident in which a bin collector was racially abused after asking a homeowner to keep his dog under control while he reversed.

    AFC Telford United's manager Gavin Cowan has warned the flood-gates could open against local rivals Hereford tonight.

    His side was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Gateshead on Saturday and he believes his side should have scored more in their three league games this season.

    Dozens of firefighters are tackling a severe fire in a flat this afternoon.

    Six fire engines were called to Middlehill Rise, Bartley Green, Birmingham, external, at 13:41.

    Crews said they don't have any reports of anyone being trapped and "good progress" is being made fighting the blaze.

    A Shropshire primary school has been given permission to build an extension, a sports pitch and a car park.

    The Ellesmere Primary Academy said part of the extension would be two storeys high and allow it to increase capacity from 410 to 420 pupils.

    And the school said the current buildings, which date back from the 1950s ‘leak’ energy and had "been developed haphazardly over a period of time".

    It said the new buildings would reduce running costs and create a more pleasant environment for the children.

    Police officers were called to Birds Bush Road, Belgrave, yesterday evening and found the 42-year-old with wounds to his arms.

    He's said to be in a stable condition in hospital.
