    A woman has been carried to safety by a firefighter after her car got stuck in flood water on Newport Road near Albrighton this morning.

    Shropshire's fire and rescue service was also called out to rescue a stranded sheep, who they reached with waders and a life jacket.

    The sun has made a rare appearance this morning and the BBC Weather Watchers have been out taking photos to share with us.

    These berries were photographed near Bromyard and the impressive landscape below is near Upton Magna in Shropshire.

  3. Big differences in A-level maths resultspublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    Maths proved the most popular subject at A-levels this year.

    Across the country, 41.4% of 18-year-olds got A or A* grades, but there was a big variation across the country and across exam boards.

    Documents first reported by the Daily Telegraph revealed that students taking papers set by both Pearson/Edexcel and OCR needed just 55% and 54% respectively to get an A grade.

    The results cover ceremonial counties, so Stoke-on-Trent figures are included with Staffordshire and Telford ones as part of Shropshire.

    The number of students taking the subject in each county also differs significantly with just 255 in Herefordshire and 3,410 in the West Midlands.

    Shropshire A-level students had the highest percentage of As and A*s in Economics in the country, figures from Ofqual have revealed.

    And Worcestershire students came out top in Physical Education, with 23.3% getting a grade of A or A*.

    Out of the 195 students taking economics in Shropshire, 46.7% got a grade of A or A* - well above the national average of 30.1%.

    The figures also show that Staffordshire students got the lowest percentage of A or A*s in maths - 28%.

  5. Van driver dies at Shugborough Hallpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    A man has died in what the ambulance service is calling a "slow speed collision" close to Shugborough Hall near Stafford this morning.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it appeared the driver of a van had suffered "a medical episode at the wheel" at 07:19 and was confirmed dead at the scene.

  6. Man faces drive-by murder chargepublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    A Birmingham man has appeared before magistrates, charged with murdering a man in a drive-by shooting.

    Sharn Miles, who is 19 and from Gowan Road in Alum Rock is accused of killing 20-year-old James Teer (pictured below) on 8 August.

    He has been remanded in custody to appear before the city's crown court on 19 August.

  9. Water company to pay for 1.3 million treespublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    Severn Trent Water says it will pay for 1.3 million trees to be planted in the Midlands over the next five years.

    The water company is supplying them to the Woodland Trust, which is working with farmers and landowners to find suitable locations.

    The firm has paid for 700,000 of them since 2015, mostly in Derbyshire, but now wants to widen the scheme out to cover Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

    It said the trees, which will all be native species, can improve drainage, reduce the amount of chemicals leaking into rivers, and improve air quality.

    Protests about the current tensions in Kashmir have been held outside the Indian consulate in Birmingham this morning.

    The demonstration follows India's government stripping the state of Jammu and Kashmir of autonomy after seven decades

    The move has led to Kashmir being in lockdown and thousands of troops being deployed to the area.

    The protest today was organised via Facebook and West Midlands Police said they would have officers in the area.

    Wasps have launched their kit for the new season, with the help of a DeLorean at Coventry's motor museum this morning.

    Dan Robson and Thomas Young were the two players chosen to step out of the dry-ice filled classic car.

    Today marks 15 years since a landmark in Wolverhampton was gutted by a huge fire.

    On 15 August 2004, more than 100 firefighters were called to the Mitchells and Butlers building on Cambridge Street, Springfield.

    They spent the night battling the blaze which ended up destroying much of the site.

    Stamps, coins and comic books - many people across the world collect them, but who would collect a key part of an office's stationary cupboard - the hole punch?

    Well, one man would and he's Peter Duffell, from Lichfield, who has amassed more than 200 punches over 40 years and is now auctioning them off.

    Richard Winterton Auctioneers says, external he started in 1978 by buying one for 50p at Lichfield Market and, since then, has bought them from places including Japan, the USA and Germany.

    The unusual collection, described as possibly "the only hole punch collection in the world" by the auctioneers, is being sold on 4 September.

  15. Five in hospital after two-car crashpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    Five people have been taken to hospital, one in a critical condition, after a crash in Shropshire last night.

    The West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the B4396 at Knockin Heath at 23:20 and found two cars had collided and one of them was found overturned in a nearby field.

    The most seriously injured man was a rear seat passenger in one of the cars and was treated for "very serious injuries".

    Another man, a front-seat passenger, was said to be seriously injured - the other three were less seriously hurt.

  17. Fire at derelict pub 'deliberately started'published at 10:07 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    A fire at a derelict pub near the A41 in Shropshire was started deliberately, police have said.

    The Countess Arms at Weston Heath was destroyed in the early hours of Monday morning and West Mercia Police said it found evidence of fires started in three locations.

    More than 60 firefighters from across Shropshire were involved in tackling the fire at one stage and the A41 had to be closed for a time.

    Officers say it's possible that drivers travelling on the A41 between 02:00 and 04:30 may have seen something.
