  1. Hospitals miss out on funding from developerspublished at 09:52 British Summer Time 15 August 2019

    BBC Hereford and Worcester

Worcestershire hospitals have been told they waited too long to ask for an extra £7.7m from house builders.

The Malvern Hills District Council said it had already negotiated with the developers behind plans for 5,000 new homes and agreed money for schools, roads and a GP surgery - and would not go back to ask for more after receiving the NHS request.

Mike Hallissey, the chief medical officer at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said the additional population would "put an additional strain on an already very stretched resource".

But the independent leader of the district council, Sarah Rouse, said the hospitals needed to go to the government if they wanted extra funding.

Saints trail 5-0 following last week's first leg in Bulgaria and face a seemingly impossible task in the third-qualifying-round second leg in Wrexham.

Opponents Ludogorets have been Bulgarian champions for the past eight seasons and they all but sealed a play-off game against Maribor of Slovenia or Norwegian side Rosenborg.
