    A family reunited with their missing dog after two years say they've been left "stunned" by his return.

    Mata, a Sharpei, was found wondering the streets of Shropshire last week and was identified by his microchip.

    Owner Nicola Spragg from Bloxwich, Walsall, said it's not known how he ended up there.

    "I didn't think we'd ever get him back," she said, "but it proves microchipping does work."

    New environmental vehicle requirements could harm the taxi business in Coventry, drivers are warning.

    The city council has approved plans to only renew licences for drivers with Euro 4 engines from January. All new cabs must have engines with zero emission capability.

    But drivers say it will cost them tens of thousands of pounds to upgrade, driving some out of business.

    His side holds a 3-2 lead going into the play-off second leg at Molineux.

    He said: "It's a new game. The [first-leg] result doesn't mean anything. It starts from zero again and that's how we approach it."

  5. Engineers work to fix Cadbury gas leakpublished at 07:34 British Summer Time 29 August 2019

    Engineers have been working through the night to fix a major gas leak at the Cadbury offices in Birmingham.

    The Bourneville site was evacuated of about 800 people after the leak on Wednesday.

    Firefighters and gas engineers were called to the scene to assess damage to a pipe at 14:15.

    Firefighters eventually left the site at about 01:10 on Thursday, said West Midlands Fire Service.

    Shropshire Council is facing an overspend of almost £8m this financial year.

    A report due to go before its cabinet next week states: "Management action across all areas of the council is now required to attempt to bring the budget back into balance."

    The report says that if action is taken, cutbacks can reduce the overspend to £1.8m instead.

    Police believe a man who was attacked with a knife in Redditch last night knew his attackers.

    The victim, who is in his 20s, was walking along Burcot Lane at around 21:00 when a car pulled up and three men in a car got out and attacked him, one of whom was carrying a knife.

    West Mercia Police said the three men then got back in their vehicle and drove away.

    The victim was treated in hospital, but has now been released and his injuries aren't believed to be life-changing, the force said.

  18. Immitation guns and ammo seized in raidspublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 28 August 2019

    Imitation firearms, shotgun cartridges, drugs and cash have been seized by police in raids on 14 addresses around Birmingham today.

    West Midlands Police said it was targeting organised crime and illegal gambling and entered five homes at around 04:00, before visiting rented industrial units in the Lozells area.

    The force said three people were arrested on suspicion of possession of the ammunition.

    In all they recovered three imitation firearms, 30 shotgun shells and two other rounds of ammunition, about £5,000 in cash, crack cocaine, and cannabis worth another £5,000. Mobile phones and laptops were also recovered.
