    Matthew Lamb is 106 not out for Warwickshire at lunch on day two of their county championship match against Essex.

    Warwickshire are 360-6 in their first innings at Edgbaston, with Henry Brookes at the other end on 33.

    The West Bromwich MP Tom Watson has said Labour must prioritise reversing Brexit through another referendum, ahead of winning power in a general election.

    The party's deputy leader warned that a snap election before the end of the year may fail to resolve the current deadlock.

    Putting himself at odds with Jeremy Corbyn, he said there was "no such thing as a good Brexit deal" and Labour must campaign unequivocally to remain.

    Mr Corbyn has promised a further referendum on Brexit.

    To explain quite how bad tailbacks have been this morning, Anna, from Cheslyn Hay, emailed us to say she'd been stuck on the slip road at J11 for four hours, waiting for traffic to move.

    While on Twitter, user @jeffers_71 bemoaned, external that his vehicle hadn't moved much in five hours near J12.

    It's not just on the motorway itself. Ian Bourne, who's been travelling to Stoke-on-Trent from Cannock, emailed to say there were "big delays in Hednesford, Cannock, Stone in each direction".

    A Sandwell councillor says he's been subject to a campaign of harassment and bullying by the Labour Party, because he wouldn't vote the way he was told to by party officials.

    Luke Giles became a Labour Councillor in Wednesbury back in 2018, but says he was threatened with suspension from the party when he wouldn't agree to vote for the national party's choice of local leader back in Feburary.

    The Labour Party says its general secretary doesn't endorse or support candidates in Labour group elections, and that it's the first it has heard of Mr Giles's complaint.

  5. Three lanes reopen on M6 southpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 11 September 2019

    Three lanes have just been reopened on the M6 southbound between J13 and J12,, external near Stafford.

    Highways England has lifted the closure which had been in place since just after midnight when a lorry crashed into the central barrier, overturned, spilt fuel and caught fire.

    The northbound side's set to stay closed for resurfacing work and lanes southbound could require further emergency repairs tonight.

    The sheer weight of queuing traffic on the M6 this afternoon is actually delaying the reopening of part of the motorway, Highways England's admitted.

    At 11:18, it said , externalit was attempting to reopen two lanes on the southbound side.

    However, when a Twitter user asked if they were back in use, the organisation said, external "traffic officers are struggling to get through to take the closure off at the moment".

    The West Midlands mayor, Andy Street, wants a state-of-the-art "gigafactory" built in the region to make batteries for electric vehicles.

    He argued it would need to be big enough to supply the next generation of vehicles and that it should be near established car manufacturers in the West Midlands.

    The Conservative mayor also welcomed the chancellor's recent spending announcements, but said he needed to go further, arguing: “Spending rounds like this must not just be about spending money but generating it – by driving the economy through technology and innovation.”

    People aren't the only ones getting stuck in the congestion on the M6 in Staffordshire today.

    Tiana Ashford emailed to say she'd been stuck for two-and-a-half hours on the motorway with three chickens in the back of her vehicle.

    She thanked a lorry driver who "gave us a big bottle of water".

    In case you were wondering, the latest on the chickens is that they are "back home, safe and sound" (as pictured above), despite Tiana not making it to her destination.

  10. 'Diesel and radiator fluid spilled' when lorry crashedpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 11 September 2019

    Diesel and radiator fluid were spilled on to the M6 this morning when the lorry crashed into the central barrier and overturned, police have said.

    Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group were called to the southbound side between J13 and J12 at 00:40 and said the vehicle also caught fire and damaged the carriageway.

    Cheshire Police are seeking to reassure the public after receiving reports of an incident at the Essar plant in Ellesmere Port.

    A power cut there resulted in a controlled flare that is expected to continue burning for the next few hours, police said.

    Sirens also sounded following the power cut.

    Two lanes could be reopening soon on the southbound side of the M6 in Staffordshire, Highways England says.

    Both carriageways between J12 and J13 have been shut since just after midnight after the lorry overturned.

    Highways England tweeted, external it was trying to open two lanes southbound once they were cleared of debris, but the northbound side needed resurfacing and would stay shut.

    Part of a house collapsed on Claremont Road in Rugby overnight.

    Nobody was injured and the police have cordoned off the area while investigations are carried out into the cause.

    Rugby Borough Council said it had responded to reports of a two-storey extension collapsing at 19:00 yesterday and at 02:00 the gable end of the property collapsed.

    It went on to say the property was empty at the time and a structural engineer was now assessing the property.

    It's not just the M6 itself that's heavily congested, surrounding roads in Staffordshire have been described as being "gridlocked" by people on Twitter.

    With both sides of the motorway shut between J12 and J13, Highways England's been diverting drivers off the motorway through Penkridge and Gailey.

    User @thatsmytweet0 tweeted , externalthat all roads in Stafford, Penkridge, Cannock and Stone were "gridlocked" and called for a bypass to help prevent congestion caused by problems on the M6.

    A 19-year-old man has suffered "serious stab wounds" after an attack in the Norton area of Stoke-on-Trent last night.

    Staffordshire Police said officers were called to Mallorie Road just after 23:00 and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

    His condition is not life-threatening.

    All Megabus services between Manchester and Birmingham are being diverted away from the M6 in Staffordshire due to the ongoing closure of the motorway.

    The firm says its passengers are facing delays of between an hour and nearly three hours , externalwith six of its routes affected.

  19. West Merica could get more than 300 extra officerspublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 September 2019

    West Mercia Police could get up to 360 extra officers, as a result of greater government funding, the Police and Crime Commissioner has said.

    John Campion said it was a very rough estimate, based on Chancellor Sajid Javid's spending pledge of £750m for 20,000 police officers for the UK.

    Mr Campion said the estimate of between 300 and 360 extra officers was based on current spending, but if the government gives priorities to other forces, he might have to fight for a "fairer share" of the money.

    Last autumn, West Mercia Police announced it was recruiting an extra 100 officers and in February it confirmed it would hire another 115 on top of that.

    All 215 of those recruits should have started work by December this year.
