Plans for high-speed trains to run across major regional cities have been submitted to the government.
A proposed 33-minute service between Birmingham and Nottingham and a 90-minute run from Leeds and Bedford that also calls into Leicester have been sent to the Department for Transport (DfT) by transport body Midlands Connect.
Currently trains between Birmingham and Nottingham take about 70 minutes, while getting between Leeds and Leicester by rail takes more than two hours.
It says the routes, which aren't currently included in the second phase of the controversial multi-billion pound project, would see more people outside of London benefit from faster rail routes between key cities.
The future of the whole HS2 project remains in doubt after prime minister Boris Johnson announced a review into the scheme, but Midlands Connect said its plans could benefit passengers commuting between the cities.
A DfT spokesman said an independent review will consider Midlands Connect's submission.
