    A food delivery driver has suffered serious injuries after his bike crashed with a car in Coventry on Thursday.

    The 55-year-old remains in a critical condition condition after crashing with a red Audi in Dunsmore Avenue, Willenhall at about 14:30.

    Officers say they're keen to speak to drivers who were nearby and may have dashcam footage.

    The New Saints manager Scott Ruscoe says he's relishing a tighter title race this season, after winning the Welsh Premier League for eight seasons in a row.

    Officers are searching for a Warwickshire man in connection with a series of knifepoint robberies.

    Officers would also like to speak to Paul Ashford, 31, from Rugby, about an assault and the breaching of a court order.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts should dial 999 immediately, Warwickshire Police said.

    A teenager accused of terrorism offences is set to stand trial in the new year.

    The 16-year-old from Rugby is charged with engaging in preparation of terrorist acts between July 20 and September 3.

    He appeared at the Old Bailey earlier and spoke to confirm his name and British nationality.

    The senior judge set a timetable for the case with a preparatory hearing on January 23 and two-week trial from February 24.

  9. Police forces split: Warwickshire 'saddened' over Home Office requestpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 4 October 2019

    Warwickshire Police said it was "saddened" to request the Home Office step in to help agree its break-up plans with the West Mercia force.

    The two forces have been in talks since the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion and Chief Constable Anthony Bangham announced they wanted to end their strategic alliance by 8 October.

    West Mercia said negotiations have now ended without an agreement.

    The Warwickshire force has now written to the government and asked it to require West Mercia to continue to collaborate with them "across joint business areas" past the split deadline.

    A joint statement from Chief Constable Martin Jelley and Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe said: "We are saddened that it should have ever been necessary to make this request to the Home Secretary.

    "Throughout the last 12 months of negotiations with West Mercia, we have remained focused on achieving an orderly separation which protects the interests of our communities and our workforce.

    "We have made multiple offers to this effect, which have been refused on each occasion by West Mercia."

    The Home Office has been approached for a comment.

    The boss of Shropshire's two main hospitals says she is trying to "define what A&E Local is", after health secretary Matt Hancock suggested one could be set up at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital which is set to lose its A&E.

    Under the Future Fit plans, the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will be home to the county's main emergency unit while the Princess Royal becomes an "urgent care model" instead.

    Interim chief executive Paula Clark said she was asking both NHS England and NHS Improvement exactly what an A&E Local is, but also said the announcement was "really significant" because it allowed them to push ahead with their plans to reorganise services.

    Ms Clark also looked to reassure people living in Telford, which is losing its emergency department and seeing specialist women and children's services move to Shrewsbury.

    "I think what we can tell patients in Telford and Wrekin is that they're going to have an outstanding surgical centre on their doorstep," she added.

    The Environment Agency says flooding across the West Midlands could worsen this weekend, with more heavy ran expected.

    It still has two flood warnings, external in Shropshire and a number of flood alerts across Shropshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Staffordshire.

    The agency said river levels have been slowly falling since the rain earlier this week, but they remain high.

  13. Gritting lorries go out... on a dry runpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 4 October 2019

    The gritting lorries are being sent out around Telford today, but it's only a dry run to prepare themselves for the winter.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says it has 2,300 tonnes of salt in its stores and is committed to gritting 400km of roads in the area.

    The council also organises a team of volunteer "snow wardens" who clear smaller roads and footpaths.

    A man has been charged with drugs offences and carrying a knife after being picked up in Rugby.

    Officers seized crack cocaine, heroin and the weapon as well as a mobile phone and cash during the incident in Market Place on Tuesday.

    The 21-year-old from Northampton is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on 29 October.
