    The Environment Agency says there's plenty of water in the River Severn to help the spawning salmon get up stream this autumn.

    This week is usually the peak time to see the fish leaping, but the deeper water means it's easier for the salmon to get over weirs without the need to jump.

    In previous years, when water levels were low, the Environment Agency installed "fish ladders" in towns such as Shrewsbury and Ludlow to give the fish a boost.

  2. Birmingham's 'floozy' fountain could flow againpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

    Birmingham's Victoria Square fountain - nicknamed The Floozy in the Jacuzzi - could be brought back into use as part of regeneration plans , externalby the city council.

    The fountain was unveiled in 1994. Officially-named The River before late-20th century tastes took hold, it has not been working since 2013 and later became a flower bed.

    Plans for a £25m revamp of the city centre ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 will be discussed at a cabinet meeting on 29 October.

    The investment plans also set out an extension of the pedestrian area in the square as well as replacing pavement, lighting and street furniture.

    When Gurpreet from Coventry started posting her workouts on Instagram she was trolled by people who said it wasn't the sort of thing Sikh women should be doing.

    She wants to prove them wrong and is on a mission to show the world that Sikhs can be "badass".

    Stoke City will be looking for three wins in a row for the first time in three years when they play Sheffield Wednesday tonight.

    Their wins against Fulham and Swansea have seen them climb off the bottom of the Championship table, but they remain in the relegation zone and the manager, Nathan Jones, has thanked the Stoke board for its support.

    Jones has warned that playoff-chasing Wednesday will be hard to beat.

    He said: "It is a difficult place to go, Hillsborough; a great place, a real nostalgic football place, with a lot of history, so it'll be a real good test of our team."

    A scrap of paper signed by all four Beatles at a concert before they hit the big time will be auctioned later.

    John, Paul, George and Ringo signed their names during a small gig in Whitchurch, Shropshire, on 19 January 1963.

    The 16-year-old who got the autographs had gone along because she knew other singers performing that night.

    The Wrexham woman left the piece of paper in a cupboard for decades. It is expected to sell later for up to £3,000.

  6. West Bromwich Albion tribute to England fan who died in Sofiapublished at 08:52 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

    The family of an England fan who died in Bulgaria last week will be guests of honour at West Bromwich Albion's home game with Barnsley later.

    Baggies fan Rob Spray, 32, died in hospital after being found in a "helpless condition" in the Bulgarian capital last Monday.

    Albion have invited his parents Malcolm and Jillian, and his sister Katie, to be the club's guests at tonight's Championship game.

    Albion said the "salute" to Mr Spray, a season-ticket holder at The Hawthorns would involve a "full tribute in the matchday programme and on the big screens at half-time".

    His family are calling for a full explanation from the Bulgarian authorities about how he died.

    A huge development could be approved this week in Birmingham for hundreds of new apartments, despite significant objections.

    The St Paul's Quarter scheme covers a four-acre part of the Jewellery Quarter either side of Northwood Street and would also see nearly 10,000sq m (100,000sq ft) of commercial buildings constructed.

    But dozens of people have objected along with the Victorian Society and British Archaeology over the impact it could have on the area and the loss of traditional buildings.

    The plans go before the city council's planning committee on Thursday, external but officers are recommending it be deferred for a legal agreement to be drawn up.

    All traffic is being temporarily held on the M6 northbound in Staffordshire after a broken down lorry spilled fuel onto the carriageway.

    There's seven miles of queuing traffic ahead of the incident at J14.

    Arrangements are being made to release trapped traffic, said Highways England.

    A man has been charged with conspiracy to murder following an incident in Warwickshire.

    The charge is in connection with an incident on the A445 Leamington Road, Ryton on Dunsmore in October 2018, police said.

    The 40-year-old from Shipston-on-Stour is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on 18 November.

  10. Stourbridge make FA Cup first round drawpublished at 07:25 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

    Stourbridge are through to the first-round proper of the FA Cup for the sixth time in 10 seasons.

    The Glassboys came from 2-0 down to beat Whitby Town 3-2 in last night’s fourth qualifying round replay with goalkeeper James Wren also saving a penalty.

    Stourbridge will be at home to the winners of tonight’s replay between Eastleigh and Welling United.
