Walsall travel to Oldham on Tuesday, to play another out-of-form team - their opponents have won just once in the last five.

    Quote Message

I'm not a rookie manager, or first-time-out manager. When you lose games as a manager you're rubbish, when players lose games they're rubbish. I get it, understand it, I don't moan about it, don't complain about it - just try and cut my players a bit of slack."

    Darrell Clarke, Walsall manager

  17. Cancer fundraising appeal hits target in three weekspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

An appeal has raised £59,000 in just three weeks to pay for proton beam therapy for a Shropshire man with a brain tumour.

Because 46-year-old Nick Haves from Sheriffhales is over the age of 24, he isn't eligible to have the treatment for free on the NHS, so his family and friends have been raising the money to pay for it privately.

If the money wasn't raised by 21 October, his family said he would have needed to have conventional radiotherapy instead, adding doctors warned he could lose his eyesight as a result.

Proton beam therapy is designed to target a tumour more precisely, thereby doing less damage to surrounding tissue.

Mr Haves' family said treatment was due to start on 4 November and thanked people for their support.

  19. Motorcyclist dies in crashpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Clifton-upon-Dunsmore near Rugby on Monday.

The rider was on Hillmorton Lane at about 14:30 and thought to have come off the bike close to the junction with the Oxford Canal, sending the bike travelling into the path of a car.

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses.

  20. Shrewsbury manager not worried by lack of goalspublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

    BBC Radio Shropshire Sport

Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts says he's not worried his team is the second-lowest scorer in League One.

Only struggling Bolton Wanderers have scored fewer than Shrewsbury's 10 goals in 12 games, but the club is 13th in the table, thanks partly to one of the meanest defences in the division.

Shrewsbury have failed to score in six of their matches so far, but Ricketts said "it's not as if we're not shooting at the target" and felt that with slightly better approach play, they will score more.

They are at home to Gillingham tonight - a side that hasn't won away all season.
