    Residents who lost their homes in a fire at a retirement complex in August are a step closer to getting a share of nearly £60,000 raised for them.

    Apartments at Beechmere, Crewe, were destroyed in a blaze which left 150 mainly older people homeless.

    The donations are being held by the town council which last night voted to transfer the cash to landlord Your Housing.

    The move will be subject to a written agreement which stipulates the cash will be divided equally between the residents.

    Aston Martin has launched its first ever sports utility vehicle, but it is being built in South Wales, not at its headquarters at Gaydon in Warwickshire.

    The Welsh Government pledged millions of pounds of public money to attract the carmaker to the Vale of Glamorgan and the St Athan plant is set to employ 750 people when fully operational.

    The DBX will be the first to be made at the South Wales site and Aston Martin said the plant has the capacity to produce 4,000 of the vehicles a year.

    A "female advisory board" has been involved in the development of the vehicle, which is the firm's first full-size five-seater and will cost £158,000.

    New parking restrictions could be imposed on three Telford streets which are clogged with cars belonging to shoppers.

    Hollinswood and Randlay Parish Council has been told an ambulance was unable to get to a patient on one of the roads and bin lorries have also been obstructed on Dallamoor, Deercote and Whitworth Drive.

    Parish clerk Katrina Baker said “Over the last four or five months we have had lots of issues on our estates" and told member Telford and Wrekin Council has been looking at a number of problem streets, because it is taking over parking enforcement at the end of January.

    DIY SOS tonight will feature a woman with cerebral palsy, from Bromsgrove, and show efforts to build a two-storey extension to her home.

    Karis Lane is just 27 but had been facing the prospect of having to live in a care home, if her home couldn't be adapted to make it wheelchair-friendly.

    The family of a 25-year-old woman who died in Upton-upon-Severn at the weekend have described her as "a popular, well known and well-liked member of Upton-upon-Severn's community".

    Sarah Hopkins was found unresponsive in Causeway Lane on Saturday. West Mercia Police is investigating and waiting for her cause of death to be established.

    A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been released on bail.

    Her family said she was "a bright, funny and intelligent girl with a beautifully sarcastic sense of humour" who loved being "bold and colourful and expressed it through her clothes and body art".

    The family statement added: "It is tragic to know that Sarah was at the beginning a fresh positive chapter in her life having recently started a wonderful new relationship."

    The former Welsh international flanker Jonathan Thomas is returning to Worcester, to be their new forwards coach.

    The 36-year-old will see out the rest of the season with his current club, Bristol, before coming back to Sixways, where he made 44 appearances.

    Thomas was capped 67 times for Wales between 2003 and 2011 and has recently been forwards coach for the Barbarians.

    Pubs and pub restaurants operator Mitchells & Butlers has reported a 36.2% rise in pre-tax profits to £177m for the 12 months up to the end of September.

    The firm runs brands like All Bar One, O'Neill's, Harvester and Toby Carvery.

    Like-for-like sales rose 3.5%, with food sales up by 3.4%, while drink sales climbed by 3.2%.

    The Birmingham-based firm said despite challenges like rising costs facing the restaurant industry, its pubs were doing well, because people still wanted to eat out during social occasions, despite weak consumer confidence.

    Sales were up due to a growth in demand for breakfast, and an increasing desire by consumers to eat healthier food than five years ago, meaning that they wanted high quality food made using superior ingredients and sourcing, and were willing to pay a higher price for it.

    They and the fire service were called just before 04:30 to the carriageway in Cliffe Vale.

    More than one in five children in Shropshire are living in food poverty, a charity has estimated.

    The Shropshire Food Poverty Alliance will present a report to members of a Shropshire Council committee next week. It says: “Low wages combined with a high rate of part-time and insecure work makes it difficult for many households to keep pace with the increases in the cost of living."

    The Food Poverty Alliance also said people in rural communities who don't have their own transport are finding their options for buying food limited.

    While it said there are no official statistics, it estimated 27,000 families in the county are affected.

    Gas released from a cylinder in the basement of a pub's suspected to have been tear gas or something similar, the fire service has said.

    Six people were treated for breathing difficulties after emergency services were called to The Moon Under Water pub on Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, last night.

    A man's been arrested in Walsall by counter-terrorism police, external on suspicion of breaching his licence conditions.

    The 36-year-old was detained today at an address in the town.

    West Midlands Police said the licence conditions were made following the man's release from prison in 2017 after being convicted of terrorism offences in 2016.
