They're members of the National Education Union at Shrewsbury Colleges Group.

The union said a reduction in money has resulted in bigger class sizes, reductions in the curriculum and an increased workload for staff.

The principal of the colleges group, James Staniforth, said he would like to see extra funding but can't condone any disruption to students’ education.

He added the government announced more funding for sixth form education in August and any more change was unlikely "before Brexit and the general election are concluded".

  7. Shropshire baby deaths: 'Blame across the NHS'published at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2019

    Michael Buchanan
    Social Affairs Correspondent, BBC News

The leaked interim report into failings at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust only confirm what dozens of families have been telling me since we first highlighted the problems at the trust in 2017.

    Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

A staggering attitude towards any number of families - dismissing their questions, telling young women who’d just lost a healthy baby not to worry as they’ll be pregnant again within the year - showed a wilful disregard to improving healthcare and learning from mistakes.

But it would be wrong to simply blame SaTH, culpable as they are.

NHS regulators as far back as 2007 drew attention to problems in the maternity unit and then failed to follow-up with any meaningful improvements.

The trust has apologised and has recently appointed a new chief executive - developing a new culture will take an awful lot longer.

  8. Police urged to bring charges against failing NHS trustpublished at 07:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2019

A catalogue of maternity care failings at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) were contained in an interim report leaked yesterday to The Independent.

It revealed some children were left disabled, staff got the names of some dead babies wrong and, in one case, referred to a child as "it".

The trust apologised and said "a lot" had been done to address concerns.

Rhiannon Davies and Richard Stanton, whose baby Kate died in 2009, said they believed the only way change would happen would be if the police brought corporate manslaughter charges against the trust.

Det Supt Carl Moore, of West Mercia Police, said the force was liaising with the independent inquiry and awaiting its findings before any criminal proceedings would be considered - in line with protocol in health care settings.
