    A Christmas fair in Warwickshire has been cancelled due to "poor ground conditions" after recent wet weather.

    The Frost Fair was due to take place at Ragley Hall in Alcester between 22 and 24 November.

    All pre-purchased tickets will be cancelled and refunded, organisers say.

    One week after severe flooding in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire there are still Environment Agency flood alerts for parts of the rivers Avon, Lugg and Severn., external

    It warned that with the ground still saturated and more rain forecast, there could be more flooding to come, so it is working to clear debris blocking rivers.

    A 13-year-old dancing-fan from Coventry who was born with eyesight problems has got to meet Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.

    Neve Allen said she had "been obsessed with dancing" since she was young and despite her vision impairment, and needing to use a cane, she began dancing when she was just four years old.

    The meeting was arranged by the Guide Dogs charity and it said Craig was her favourite judge - she loved his theatrical manner and how honest he was with his feedback.

  4. Body of man recovered from riverpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2019

    The body of a man in his 30s has been recovered from the River Avon in Evesham.

    West Mercia Police said he was found at about 16:45 on Wednesday after a search by emergency services.

    The search was launched following reports earlier that day of a man going into the water opposite the rowing club.

    The force said the discovery was being linked to an earlier domestic incident.

    The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and the man's family has been informed.

    A cap awarded to Bobby Moore on his first appearance as England captain has sold for £11,000 at auction in Ludlow.

    He was 22 at the time of the 1963 match against Czechoslovakia and remains the nation's youngest ever captain.

    A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after an armed police operation in Shrewsbury this afternoon.

    Officers were called at 14:20 to what was described as a "domestic incident", with the West Mercia force saying nobody was hurt and no shots fired.

    University researchers have been given permission to drill a 850m borehole into rocks in Shropshire to learn more about its prehistoric past.

    The University of Exeter said it wanted to bring out 20cm-diameter rock samples representing 20 million years of history from the site near the A49 at Prees.

    The researchers are especially interested in learning more about the Jurassic and Triassic periods.

    Once the rock cores have been examined, they will be stored permanently at the British Geological Survey National Core Repository in Keyworth, Nottingham.

    A school engaged its lock-down procedure earlier after a man was seen on the roof.

    Police attended Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School in Wednesbury at about 12:15.

    All staff and students were safe, the school tweeted.

    No-one was located, but officers were viewing CCTV, the force added.

    Before he died in November last year, Sandris Abimeicevs, 55, had been staying with three other men in a bedsit on Walford Road, Sparkbrook.

    A post mortem examination revealed he had been beaten over the course of many hours, resulting in more than 50 visible injuries to his body.

    Olegas Borisovskis, 60; Saulius Lemezonas, 45; and Vytautas Medeckis, 30, were found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court earlier, and due to be sentenced on Friday.

    The first cap that Bobby Moore earned as England captain is being sold at auction today in Shropshire.

    He was awarded the blue velvet cap in 1963 for England’s match with Czechoslovakia, which England won 4-2.
