Eric Flavin, 73, who has terminal cancer, spent six months in temporary accommodation after his home in Wythall, Worcestershire, was hit by flash flooding in May last year.

But, during the heavy rain earlier this month, he says a drain near his home filled up again and he and his family spent nearly six hours bailing filthy water out of his front garden to stop it coming into his house.

"We haven't got over it now, we're both absolutely ridden with a cold and a cough and we can't be doing this, five-and-a-half hours in the pouring rain. With all due respect, nobody seems to be listening," he said.

The cinema chain has pulled the film after seven police officers were injured during a brawl at Birmingham's Star City complex, with Showcase also dropping the movie.

"This decision is not, as some have alleged, based on biased assumptions or concern about the content of the film itself," it said, describing it as a "fantastic film with a very powerful message".

    Quote Message

Despite a range of precautionary measures in place, including increased security, removal of late-night showings and reduced screenings of the film, the decision to withdraw Blue Story in its entirety was made on Saturday evening on grounds of safety alone. While we are disappointed that these are the actions we have had to take, we hope it is understandable that we cannot, and will not, take any risks with regard to the welfare and safety of our staff and our customers. Unfortunately, the actions of a significant few have spoiled the opportunity for others, but we stand by our decision to withdraw the film from our schedule indefinitely."
