The operator says the problems are due to a shortage in train crew and are unrelated to this week's new timetable.

"Even with the new timetable, it is a real concern", Mr Walker added.

The Met office has a yellow weather warning in force for rain covering most of the West Midlands until midday on Friday.

Worcester County Council says Hylton Road in Worcester is closing to allow pumps to be installed. The road is expected to reopen at about 21:30.

A flood warning is in force for Kempsey and the surrounding area, and a string of less serious flood alerts are in place in parts of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire.

  20. Council welcomes child sexual abuse convictionspublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2019

Telford and Wrekin Council has welcomed the convictions of four men over charges including the rape and indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl in the early 2000s.

Telford has been in the headlines in recent years over child sexual exploitation and an independent inquiry on child sexual exploitation in the town is currently ongoing.

Jurors in this latest case were told by prosecutors the vulnerable victim was sold for sex and treated as a "piece of meat".

Clive Jones, Telford and Wrekin Council director of children’s services, said the local authority was pleased the perpetrators had been brought to justice.

The convictions also follow Operation Chalice which saw seven men jailed in 2013 for child sexual abuse offences in the town.

The council has set up a task-force to focus on the issue and has trained taxi drivers and hotel staff to spot the signs of CSE, although it has also faced criticism for the time taken to launch the inquiry.
