The Labour leader of Telford and Wrekin Council wants Jeremy Corbyn's successor to be someone who has "looked at the lessons that need to be learnt" from the "awful" general election defeat.
Shaun Davies said Sir Keir Starmer and Lisa Nandy were his favourites out of the candidates who have declared so far.
Mr Davies also said it was "really important that we understand what went wrong and what we need to do in order to become a credible opposition and eventually a government."
The driver and passengers of a BMW that crashed with another car in Kings Norton earlier absconded before emergency services got to the scene, said the fire service.
Crews were called to Westhill Road, close to the Camp pub, shortly before 10:00.
The driver of the second vehicle, a woman, was treated for minor injuries and discharged at the scene, the ambulance service said.

Aldi has made a second bid to expand its Blakenhall store in Wolverhampton – despite a number of objections from neighbouring residents.
The food retailer has now submitted a second planning proposal to expand the existing premises which stands at the junction of Goldthorn Hill and Dudley Road.
Letters of objection cite loss of car parking, traffic disruption, and pedestrian safety fears.
The plans, which have been recommended for approval, will be discussed by the council on 14 January.

Charities and community groups in Redditch could have their rent discounts withdrawn by the borough council.
The authority spends £82,000 helping not-for-profit groups afford premises, but the provision could be cut to help shave £1.1m off its next budget.
The funding currently helps nine groups.
Last year proposals for rent discounts were pulled following fears it could force some groups to close, but the plan resurfaced in November - one of six money-saving options set to go before councillors next Tuesday.

Hanley Town Hall will be put up for sale later in the year by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
The building will be closed to the public after the last engagement for the city centre registrars in October.
The authority will move the services based there to the council building in Stoke.
The council is aiming to save more than £9m in the new financial year and is looking to sell off a range of properties, including the Queen's Theatre in Burslem and the old Mitchell and Berry Hill high schools.
The International Shooting Sports Foundation has given its backing to India's proposal to stage shooting events for the 2022 Commonwealth Games - despite Birmingham being the host city.
India had threatened to boycott the Games after the sport was excluded from the disciplines to be contested in two years' time.
The proposal will be considered by the Commonwealth Games Federation over the coming weeks.

Stoke manager Michael O'Neill has backed goalkeeper Adam Davies after his error at Brentford on Saturday.
It cost Stoke the game as they lost 1-0, but O'Neill said: "I thought throughout the game he did very well. Everything else he had to do in the game he did extremely well."
O'Neill said the player will know he should have done better, but said he's still young and it was important to give him the opportunity to play.

A potential new site for Hereford's police headquarters has been bought by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.
The 2.8 acres of land, just off Holmer Road, was formerly the Painters Brothers sports pitches and was on the market for £850,000.
The force has been looking for a new site in the city for a number of years.
A spokesperson for the PCC's office said the purchase was part of a wider plan to ensure the effective and efficient management of the publicly-owned police estate.

The two sides meet again on 14 January after drawing 1-1 at Ashton Gate and Edwards added: "The chances of playing Liverpool in the FA Cup, they don't come around very often."
