    Two men have been arrested after a working men's club was targeted by armed robbers and a police car rammed.

    Armed officers were sent to the Walsgrave club on Woodway Lane at 00:15. where two men with crowbars had forced open a fire door.

    A large metal safe had been dragged out of the club, in an attempt to steal it.

    A 25-year-old man from Bell Green was detained at gunpoint at the site.

    Another man, aged 20 from Nuneaton, was arrested nearby after making off in a car before reversing into a police vehicle.

    Both remain in police custody.

    Liverpool Women's manager Vicky Jepson says the club are "doing everything they can" to resolve pitch issues, after Sunday's Super League match against Birmingham City was called off.

    It was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Prenton Park, home of men's League One side Tranmere Rovers.

    It was Liverpool's second home postponement in three weeks.

    "It's just disappointing that Tranmere can't sort this pitch situation out for us," Jepson told BBC Sport.

    A museum in Herefordshire dedicated to a British secret agent in World War Two is set to expand.

    Violette Szabo was captured days after the D-Day landings and later killed.

    A Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent, her story was turned into a 1958 film Carve Her Name with Pride , externalstarring Virginia McKenna.

    The 23-year-old, who was killed by the Nazis at the Ravensbruck Concentration Camp in Germany 75 years ago this week, spent time between her missions in Wormelow with her aunt and uncle.

    The museum at their former home will double in size next year with £20,000 of the £30,000 needed already raised through donations.

    A 48-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody, police say, after a body was found in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police said officers were called to an address in Maud Street, Fenton, at about 12:00 on Sunday and discovered the body of a 56-year-old man.

    His death is being treated as suspicious, although a post-mortem examination has yet to take place.

    A large decorative coronet that sits on top of Shrewsbury's historic Flaxmill has been put back in place after being restored.

    The 10ft tall cast iron crown was put up in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubiliee.

    Crowdfunding raised £11,000 towards the £25,000 project.

    Police searching a stretch of canal outside Coventry in the hunt for missing mother Nicola Payne say it was prompted by "credible" new information.

    It is almost 30 years since she went missing, but West Midlands Police have continued to follow up leads in recent years.

    “We are as committed as ever to finding Nicola’s remains... and to achieving justice for her family and the community," Det Insp Justin Mason-Spanner from the homicide team, said.

    Specialist officers, including underwater teams, are searching a stretch of the canal between Coventry and Rugby.

    They are expected to remain there for the next few days.

    Samatta became the first Tanzanian to score in the Premier League, after arriving from Belgian club Genk a fortnight ago, but Villa went down 2-1 at Bournemouth.

    The striker also says he is thrilled to have fulfilled the wishes of Tanzanian football fans to see one of their own playing in the top flight.

    "It makes me feel great because back in Tanzania they were always looking for someone to play in the premier league," he stated.

    Plans to build up to 1,300 homes, external, a new primary school and business units south of Hereford have been submitted.

    The Bloor Homes scheme for the southern urban expansion at Lower Bullingham includes a mix of housing as well as a new community hub and country park.

    The main vehicle access to the 185-acre site would be from the Rotherwas relief road while a bus only route would serve the site from Lower Bullingham lane.

    Some local residents have raised concerns over increased traffic, flooding risks and the number of properties proposed for the site.

    A man accused of sending threats to kill Labour MPs Jess Phillips and Rosie Cooper is to stand trial in June.

    Rakeem Malik, 53, is also accused of sending threatening letters to former prime minister Theresa May.

    He appeared at Birmingham Crown Court earlier via video-link charged with four counts of making threats to kill, and two charges under the Malicious Communications Act.

    The Chinese Community Centre in Birmingham has said it had heard of "increased" abuse against Chinese people in the UK, following the spread of coronavirus.

    There are more than 17,000 confirmed cases of the virus in China. Some 361 people have died in the mainland alone.

    Outside China, there are more than 150 confirmed cases of the virus - and one death, in the Philippines.

    Yuan Ren, a Chinese reporter based in the UK, said she had heard what seemed an increasing number of incidents of "casual racism" and even people moving away from Chinese people on the bus.

    "That kind of blanket assumption that you're Chinese ethnically that you you somehow come from Wuhan... it's outrageous.

    "The other day I was in Boots and somebody who had a scarf wrapped around their face was asking about masks. As soon as she saw me there was a flinch and I was very very aware she was potentially very scared."
