    Police are trying to trace the source of a batch of MDMA tablets after a man died and a woman became seriously ill during a night out in Leamington Spa.

    The 19-year-old male fell ill at the drum and bass night at The Assembly in the town at about 05:00, and later died in hospital.

    The 22-year-old woman remains seriously ill in hospital and police say others have also admitted taking so-called red bull pills.

    Warwickshire Police has urged people to check on the welfare of friends who attended the event.

  2. Boy due in court over stab deathpublished at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

    A boy is due in court charged in connection with the stab death of a teenager in Leamington Spa.

    The accused, from London, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is the third person to be charged over the death of 17-year-old Nasir Patrice.

    He has been charged with kidnap and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He is due to appear at Warwick Magistrates' Court later.

    Nasir, from Birmingham, died in Tachbrook Road, on 15 January. An 18-year-old man was also stabbed.

  3. Criticised rail operator 'under review'published at 08:10 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

    The West Midlands mayor says he's keeping a rail operator under review following his ultimatum he would report it to the government if it didn't improve performance.

    In a letter to the transport secretary Grant Shapps, Andy Street says delays and cancellations aren't as bad as they were. But he adds he will not hesitate to request that West Midlands Trains loses its franchise should last year’s problems return.

  4. Semi-automatic pistols found in postpublished at 07:50 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

    A man is due in court charged with attempting to possess firearms after two semi-automatic pistols were discovered in the postal system.

    The guns were seized along with ammunition by Border Force officers at a parcel hub in the Midlands last month after being imported from Florida.

    The accused, a 31-year-old from Meriden near Solihull, is due at Birmingham Magistrates' Court later.

    Another 31-year-old, from Coventry, has been released under investigation, the National Crime Agency says.

  5. Man questioned on suspicion of murderpublished at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2020

    A man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after the body of a 56-year-old man was found in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police said it was called to an address in Maud Street, Fenton, at about 12:00 on Sunday, where the body was discovered.

    The death is being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

    The arrested man, aged 48 and from Stoke-on-Trent, remains in custody.
