The coronavirus crisis has been described as “totally unprecedented” by a senior Wolverhampton councillor.
Three people have died in Wolverhampton including a woman in her 60s who died at New Cross Hospital on Saturday.
Opposition Conservative group leader Wendy Thompson said colleagues accepted the decision made by the government on Friday to defer the 7 May elections for 12 months.
The local authority’s focus needed to be on ensuring the safety of older and vulnerable people and looking after the economic health of the city, she added.

Dudley Council has issued an urgent call for supplies of hand sanitiser, face masks and body bags to tackle the spread of coronavirus after the first death in the borough was reported last week.
The local authority has issued a tender notice asking companies to supply the products "immediately" as part of its efforts to slow the spread of the infection which has killed 21 people in the UK.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, according to West Midlands Police.

Jaguar Land Rover is the latest company to confirm it has been approached by the government for help with the production of ventilators.

A motorcyclist is in a critical condition following a crash in Oldbury in the Black Country this morning.
The incident, involving a car and a motorcycle, happened on Regent Road, in Tividale shortly before 07:45.
He was taken the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further emergency care, said the ambulance service.
The Pride of Birmingham Awards, set to take place at the University of Birmingham’s Great Hall on Wednesday, will now be held in September, organisers have said.
It would be "innapropriate" to bring 300 people together for the event, said the company in a statement.

A head teacher has admitted she feels "absolutely helpless" over whether to close her school amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Bryony Baynes told the Victoria Derbyshire show there had been a rising number of parents at Kempsey Primary School, near Worcester, choosing to isolate their children.
There have been blanket closures of schools in countries such as Spain, France and Ireland.
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson is due to meet head teachers to discuss their concerns on Monday.

A patient who had tested positive for Covid-19 in Crewe has died.
The man was being cared for at Leighton Hospital, said the local NHS trust.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust Chief Executive James Sumner said: "The patient who died yesterday was in his 60s and had underlying health conditions.
"His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."
A number of fundraising events have been postponed during April and May, the Midlands Air Ambulance charity has announced.
“These events include our Bik4Life Ride Out and Festival, Walk4Life and We’re A Knockout," it said.
“During this health crisis, we are focusing on the provision of our front-line emergency medical service, ensuring the doctors and critical care paramedics can continue to treat some of the Midlands’ most critically ill and injured patients."

A CCTV image has been released of men police would like to speak to in connection with a burglary at a Co-op store in Coventry.
The four masked men forced entry into the shop in Alfall Road before stealing a large quantity of cigarettes and alcohol.
The raid happened at about 22:45 on Saturday 7 March.
A patient who died at the weekend after being tested positive for Covid-19 in Shrewsbury had underlying health issues.
The patient was a resident at Summerfield Place retirement development, said company McCarthy and Stone.
"We are very much aware of the potential vulnerability of our residents and are committed to taking every step within our power to minimise the risk of Covid-19," it said in a statement.
"In addition, we are strongly promoting the advice and guidance issued by the government and Public Health England.”
Full support is being given to the family of the patient and other residents at the development, it added.
A by-election in Coventry on Thursday is set to go ahead with "extra health precautions," said the city council.
Following the death of councillor Sucha Bains the by-election has been called to fill the vacancy for the Upper Stoke ward.
Local and mayoral elections scheduled for 7 May have been postponed for a year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
