    A former rehabilitation centre in Hereford is going to reopen, to help with the coronavirus response.

    Herefordshire Council said the 22-bed Hillside Care Centre will be made available to health and social care services, to help patients who need "ongoing healthcare."

    The building was closed by the NHS Wye Valley Trust in 2018 to save money.

    The council is now considering how best to redevelop it in the future and said it wanted it to be a "high quality care facility that focuses on specialised long term care for older members of the community."

    Five cemeteries around Tamworth have been closed to the public , externalas part of efforts to try and stop the spread of coronavirus.

    The borough council's become the latest authority in the West Midlands to make the move which they said is in line with government guidelines.

    The cemeteries are now only accessible for funerals with the council adding mourners can only include people from the person's household or immediate family.

    Adults with minor injuries in the Coventry area are being asked not to visit the University Hospital.

    Instead they're being asked to go to the urgent treatment centres in Coventry or Rugby.

    Two men who travelled from Shropshire to Birmingham to pick up a laptop were asked to return home.

    Officers tweeted , external"folks this is not an essential journey" after they questioned the pair in the city centre.

    They said the two men said they had travelled to the city, a distance of 34 miles, to pick up a laptop bought on Facebook Marketplace. But, after being spoken to, they apologised and went back to Telford.

    Peeler, the West Mercia Police mascot has been delivering Easter eggs to the winners of a colouring competition for children in Redditch.

    The eggs were donated by the National Trust and Inspector Lee Page, who went out with Peeler, said they've made some local children very happy.

    CCTV images of a man police want to speak to in connection with a sexual assault have been released.

    West Midlands Police said, external the 18-year-old victim got onto the 2E service leaving Birmingham city centre on 3 March.

    She sat upstairs and a man sat next to her and touched her inappropriately.

    Theatre performances at venues owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group have been further suspended until the end of May due to the ongoing pandemic.

    They include the Regent Theatre (pictured) and Victoria Hall, both in Stoke-on-Trent, and The Alexandra in Birmingham.

    The group had previously suspended performances until 26 April , externalbut has extended it until 31 May.

    All customers affected by the news will be contacted and either exchange their booking for a new performance or take a credit voucher.

    The death of a nurse with coronavirus is "absolutely devastating news for the family", a colleague of hers told BBC Asian Network,

    Dr Samara Afzal, a GP in Birmingham, knew Areema Nasreen, who died after being on a ventilator at Walsall Manor Hospital where she also worked.

    Dr Afzal added: "They [the family] are still coming to terms, it's heartbreaking for the children who didn't get to see her, because of the circumstances and the nature of Covid."

    "She was very bubbly, full of life... she was a fantastic role model to Asian women, she married young and had children but then wanted to pursue her dream in nursing, became a nurse and absolutely loved her job, she was completely dedicated to it, she'd go out of her way to help people," she added.

    More than 8,000 people have signed a petition calling for the planned Birmingham Nightingale hospital to be named after nurse Mary Seacole.

    NHS England has proposed turning the National Exhibition Centre into a space with hundreds of extra beds for patients with Covid-19.

    An online petition has called for the hospital to be named after Mary Seacole as "it would reflect the diversity of our country and the NHS".

    It was started by Patrick Vernon, originally from Wolverhampton, who said he had been a long-time advocate of the 19th Century pioneer.

    Ms Seacole was a Jamaican-born nurse who cared for wounded British soldiers during the Crimean War in the 19th Century.

    Several buildings in Birmingham, including The library at Birmingham City University , externalare named after her.

  17. Collision involving passenger train investigatedpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 3 April 2020

    A collision between a passenger train and a derailed locomotive near Bromsgrove station is being investigated.

    The crash happened during the eveing of 23 March and the passenger train, which was carrying two crew and four passengers, had been travelling between Cardiff and Birmingham.

    No injuries were reported, but the train suffered 'significant damage' and the derailed locomotive, which had been helping heavy freight trains up the hill, suffered some damage to its cab.

    The Rail Accident Investigative Branch is looking into how it happened.
