    Motorists are being asked to be extra careful, with more runners, walkers and cyclists choosing to take their daily exercise outdoors.

    Warwickshire Police said they need to be given extra room and asked drivers to slow down.

    The warning follows a collision involving a car and a cyclist in Nuneaton last Thursday, which left the cyclist in hospital with a broken arm.

    More than 400,000 pieces of personal protective equipment have been delivered to care homes and providers.

    The masks, gloves and gowns have been sent to Staffordshire companies who have been unable to get their own PPE.

    Staffordshire County Council said it is also making over £13m available for care firms to cover PPE and staffs costs buring the outbreak.

    Stafford Rangers says supporters have raised £42,500 to help the club make up for money lost during the coronavirus lockdown.

    It had been aiming to raise £50,000, with the help of a government grant, and said it is now aiming to reach £90,000 to make the club debt free.

    "We will be reviewing all aspects of the running the club and will be launching some very exciting fund raising initiatives," the club said.

    It is also continuing the search for a new manager and after reviewing the applications, will be carrying out interviews via video calls.

    A motorcyclist has died in a crash in Droitwich.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to York Avenue during Monday afternoon and found a man lying on the ground next to a motorbike.

    The service said it appeared he had hit a tree and was confirmed dead at the scene.

    Legal action could be taken against people starting bonfires in their gardens, Shropshire Council has warned.

    The authority says it understands it can be difficult to dispose of waste with recycling centres closed, but adds the fires are affecting those who are vulnerable and self-isolating at home.

    The council says all household waste, including garden waste, is being collected as normal and people shouldn't be burning anything.

    The fire service has said call-outs to bonfires are an unnecessary strain on resources.

  11. JLR increases face visor productionpublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 28 April 2020

    Jaguar Land Rover says it is increasing the number of protective face visors it is making for healthcare staff.

    The firm is making 14,000 a week using 3D printers at its base in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

    The masks are being sent directly to NHS trusts for use on the wards, including at nearby Warwick Hospital.

  12. New A&E figures shed light on early days of lockdownpublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 28 April 2020

    Attendances at Worcestershire's A&E departments dropped by more than a third during the first week of the coronavirus lockdown.

    That included a 50% fall in the number of patients turning up at A&E by themselves.

    There were also more than 7,000 cancelled appointments, and by the last day of March, the county's acute hospitals had more than 352 unoccupied beds.

    At the same time, around a fifth of staff were off work.

  13. Large fire at skip hire businesspublished at 08:43 British Summer Time 28 April 2020

    Firefighters spent two hours battling a rubbish fire at Shropshire Skips in Telford last night.

    Eight fire engines were called out to the Halesfield industrial estate at 19:45 and people living nearby were asked to close their doors and windows.

    In addition, one lane of the nearby A442 had to be closed.

    Theatre workers have swapped producing Peter Pan costumes for gowns and scrubs for NHS staff.

    The team from Birmingham Rep's wardrobe department are making the clothing in their own homes.

    One of them, Caroline Mirfin, from Hampton-in-Arden, said they were keen to do their bit, and could make scrubs in three to four hours.

    The theatre's now setting up public drop-off points to increase the supply of fabric to work with.
