    If you're a parent with young children, how are you feeling about their primary school potentially reopening from 1 June?

    From that date, children in reception, year 1 and year 6 in England should return to school if infection rates and the government's other tests at the time allow it, ministers say.

    But some councils in the West Midlands have expressed concerns, such as Solihull and Birmingham, while others have said they're looking to reopen.

    Birmingham will this week see some of the first training sessions by English cricketers this year, since the coronavirus outbreak began in the country.

    Edgbaston will be one of seven grounds hosting at least one session from Thursday as up to 18 bowlers begin individual training.

    Batsmen and wicketkeepers will return to individual training from 1 June.

    There will be no cricket in England or Wales until at least 1 July because of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Hope House Hospice, near Oswestry, Shropshire, is missing out on £500,000 a month in donations and fundraising events and having to use reserves to keep going.

    It relies almost entirely on income from fundraisers and would have expected money this spring from people running the London Marathon and from charity balls.

    The hospice is still bringing in £35,000 a week from its lottery, but has warned there's only enough money to keep going for another six months.

    An LGBT event in Cheshire's been cancelled , externaldue to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

    Pride in the Park had already been rescheduled from June to September by Cheshire East Council when the lockdown began in March.

    But the authority said the continuing government restrictions had now forced it to cancel the event, due to happen in Queens Park, Crewe.

    It added Pride in the Park, which attracted 5,000 visitors last year, would return on 19 June 2021.

    Ruby had to be helped by Shrewsbury firefighters this week, when she got her head stuck in a stone wall.

    As you can see, she was successfully freed and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service says call-outs like this can be among their most rewarding.

    "Radical" proposals have been put forward to limit the number of tourists gathering in Ironbridge, Shropshire.

    Telford and Wrekin Council said it was seeing increasing numbers of visitors, with lockdown being eased, and fast action was needed.

    The closure of The Square car park next to the bridge, the removal of on-street parking and the closure of The Wharfage, Tontine Hill and High Street have all been proposed.

    The parish council said there could also be signs to tell motorcyclists not to gather by the Iron Bridge itself.

  10. Preparations to reopen flower gardenpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 20 May 2020

    A one-way system is being set up for the Dingle flower garden in Shrewsbury's Quarry park, so people can safely visit this summer.

    The town council hopes to reopen the Dingle in a few weeks and also plans to prevent people sitting on benches.

    Town clerk Helen Ball said she hoped to have everything ready after the summer bedding had been planted, but the splash park and play areas would have to remain closed for the time being.

    These are the students facing a virtual year abroad dealing with Zoom lectures, presentations at 03:00 and missing out on life-changing experiences.

    BBC News has spoken to a University of Warwick student finishing a year abroad in Australia from his home in south London and a University of Birmingham student aiming to keep up her German skills via online classes.

    Ministers are facing pressure from councils and teaching unions to reconsider plans to reopen English primary schools to some pupils from 1 June.

    At least 11 councils have expressed concerns over safety and timing.

    Conservative-led Solihull Council warned some school places may not be ready for the first week of June and Birmingham City Council's made similar warnings.

    Teaching union NASUWT said it remained "unconvinced" reopening schools was "appropriate or practicable".

    Justice Secretary Robert Buckland said No 10 was taking all concerns "very seriously".

    Ed Isaac's drawings of his vacuum cleaner and wheelie bin have driven a local art movement.

    Coronavirus: Man's lockdown art inspires Wolverhampton

    The Wolverhampton artist has produced more than 50 images of daily life during lockdown, inspiring his local council to launch an online exhibition.

    His work has gained social media acclaim since he started sketching "humdrum" things in March.

    It's led Wolverhampton City Council to use him as the basis for an online art challenge, urging residents to send in their own lockdown artwork for virtual display.

    When lockdown is over, it's hoped the public's creations from the period will go on show at the city's art gallery.
