    Hereford's new multimillion-pound GP super-surgery will be open this autumn.

    It will bring five of the city's existing surgeries together under one roof at the Hereford Medical Group building, next to the railway station.

    Work started in May and it will also include diabetes, midwifery, cardiology, family planning and urgent care clinics as well as GP surgeries.

  2. 'New and ongoing concerns' at hospitalspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 1 July 2020

    "New and ongoing concerns" have been identified at the hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford by the Care Quality Commission.

    The trust that runs the hospitals is still in special measures and the CQC said an inspection last month raised issues "around patient safety on the medical wards which led to enforcement action against the trust".

    Heidi Smoult, CQC’s deputy chief inspector of hospitals, said: "Urgent discussions are taking place with NHS England and NHS Improvement to find a way forward.

    "In the last two years conditions have been imposed on the trust on five occasions and three warning notices have been issued."

    A statue of Birmingham's first member of parliament has been lifted back into place today, external after being removed and put into storage five years ago.

    The monument to Thomas Attwood was relocated due to the refurbishment works in the Paradise area.

    Attwood was a leader of the movement which led to the Great Reform Act of 1832 and the creation of MPs for the new industrial towns in the Midlands and North of England.

    The number of fake goods seized in Birmingham during lockdown has been "astronomical", according to the head of the city's trading standards.

    The haul included fake items bearing the labels of brands like Nike, Versace and Gucci.

    But Mr Quigley said it wasn't just clothing which was being seized: "We've also during the pandemic seen fake personal protective equipment, we've seen fake sanitiser, we've seen other items like Covid tests."

    Jockeys observed a minute's silence in memory of Grand National-winning rider Liam Treadwell as jump racing resumed at Southwell today.

    Police attended Treadwell's home near near Bridgnorth on 23 June and are treating his death as unexplained but said there was no third-party involvement.

    The tribute also remembered Aintree Racecourse chairman Rose Paterson, the wife of North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson, who also died last week.

  10. Woman and children in hospital after police chasepublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 1 July 2020

    A woman and two children have been taken to hospital after their car was involved in a crash with a vehicle that was being chased by police through Birmingham.

    West Midlands Police said at 14:00 a patrol spotted a Vauxhall Astra that was thought to have been used in a theft this afternoon and pursued it until it hit an oncoming BMW on Tile Cross Road.

    The two men in the Astra were arrested on suspicion of theft and failing to stop for the police and were also taken to hospital, as a precaution.

    The woman and children are not believed to be seriously injured, West Midlands Police said, but the incident has been referred to the force's professional standards department.

    A new one-way system, created to maintain social distancing in Rugby, has been removed after failing to get the support of local businesses.

    Warwickshire County Council said it acted quickly to put measures in place to protect the health of shoppers, but also responded to feedback.

    The cost of introducing and then removing the Rugby one-way scheme was £36,500.

    Similar traffic schemes have been introduced in Stratford-upon-Avon, Leamington Spa and Warwick and measures are due to be introduced in Kenilworth, Nuneaton and Bedworth over the coming weeks.

    A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a cannabis farm at a former nightclub in Shrewsbury.

    Last October, West Mercia Police found drugs with an estimated street value of up to £1.6m growing at what was the Liquid and Diva club on Raven Meadows.

    Earlier this year five warrants were carried out in Shrewsbury and Birmingham with three people arrested.

    The force said the latest arrest was made in Kent last night, on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

    The announcement that Wigan Athletic have gone into administration could have a major impact on Stoke City's season.

    It's expected to result in a 12 point penalty and that would drop Wigan to the bottom of the Championship table and move Stoke one place further away from the relegation zone.

    Schools, care homes and hospitals in Stoke-on-Trent are being closely monitored for any swift increase in coronavirus cases, the local authority says.

    The city council, like others across the country, has drawn up a plan to deal with an outbreak, external and published it following the lockdown in Leicester.

    The East Midlands city is the first to experience a local lockdown, after a rise in coronavirus cases.

    Stoke-on-Trent's plan sets out how to manage such an outbreak locally and includes investigating cases of high absenteeism from schools or workplaces and high levels of hospitalisations due to Covid-19.

    A man convicted of drugs offences has been arrested in Amsterdam after more than seven years on the run, police have said.

    Mark Liscott, from Great Barr, Birmingham, had served part of a sentence for drugs offences then breached his licence in 2012.

    The National Crime Agency said the 59-year-old was arrested on 24 June after Dutch police raided a house.

    It said he tried to get away by jumping across balconies but was captured by officers.

    For the second time in three days, no coronavirus-related deaths have been reported by hospital trusts in the West Midlands.

    Wednesday is usually a day when the figure has been higher in past weeks.

    No deaths were recorded on Monday or Wednesday and nine were recorded on Tuesday.
