A new operator is wanted for the Priory Visitor Centre in Coventry in time for it becoming UK City of Culture next year.

The centre, which features history exhibits, closed in 2019. It's built in the ruins of the city's first cathedral, which was uncovered in 1999 after an archaeological investigation by the city council and Channel Four's Time Team programme.

Carole Donnelly, a founding director of the last group to run the centre, Coventry Priory CIC, said it was "the heart of the city centre", but warned it needed money to pay for things like security and lighting.

The Conservative Party has decided to call off its plans for a party conference in Birmingham in the autumn.

It said it would organise a virtual conference instead, to be held in October.

The party added "conference is a highlight of the political calendar and we know many people will be disappointed if they can't attend conference in person".

Families call for justice outside the plant where five men were killed in a wall collapse in 2016.

A protest has been held to mark the anniversary of the death of workers at a recycling centre in Birmingham.

Alimamo Jammeh, 45, was one of five workers killed instantly when a wall collapsed at the site in Nechells.

Ousmane Diaby, 39, Bangally Dukureh, 55, Saibo Sillah, 42, and Muhamadou Jagana, 49, also died at Hawkeswood Metal Recycling in July 2016.

The families of the victims say they're still waiting for answers due to delays in the prosecution of the recycling firm.

The Health and Safety Executive says it's down to changes to its legal team and problems caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Police in Rugeley have been given extra powers to deal with antisocial behaviour following concerns over a large group of teenagers travelling there from Hednesford.

Officers have the power to disperse groups if they think they're likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Customers who had orders with the Alan Ward furniture chain before it went into liquidation have been told they will have them fulfilled by the new owners.

More than 100 people based in Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire were told they had lost their jobs when the company went out of business. They are still waiting to hear whether they will be taken on by Birmingham-based Cousins.

Rightmove looked at areas in England where at least 100 new listings were added to its website between 13 May and 1 July.

It found 55% of all newly listed properties for sale since the market reopened for business have already found a buyer in Willenhall, making it the fastest moving property market in England.

Gary Williams, partner at Skitts Estate Agents in Willenhall, said: "We've had sales going through quickly for all parts of the market over the past few weeks from first-time buyers to bigger family homes, with three and four-bed homes most in demand."

A driver was attacked with a stick after two vehicles crashed in Erdington, Birmingham.

Two men got out of a Seat Leon and threw an object at a Honda, smashing a window before the 20-year-old occupant was struck several times through the broken glass, police said.

He suffered minor facial cuts in the incident on Slade Road just after 12:30 on 2 July.

Police are continuing to search for the pair of attackers and are appealing for witnesses.

A 29-year-old man from Telford has been charged with murder following the death of a man on Charlton Street in Wellington on Saturday.

A 27-year-old woman arrested in connection has been released on bail as inquiries continue.
