A junior doctor who lives with her parents said they were forced to self-isolate and miss work after she contracted coronavirus.
Captain Hina Morjaria, an Army reservist from Kidsgrove, said her parents had to employ temporary staff to keep their pharmacy business afloat and took “quite a hit” financially.
The Royal Stoke doctor said she tried to self-isolate in the house but her parents also became ill.
"Whilst I started to get unwell and that passed over about four or five days and then my parents started to show symptoms and it hit my dad really badly even though he is relatively fit,” she said.
Captain Morjaria, 27, recently appeared in a publicity drive encouraging other NHS staff to consider a part-time military career.

A study by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that across the UK in April, 46.6% of people in employment did some work at home, mainly as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Women were slightly more likely to do some work at home than men, while people aged 16 to 24 were less likely to do some work from home than those in older age groups.
Occupations requiring higher qualifications and more experience were more likely to provide homeworking opportunities than elementary and manual occupations, according to statisticians.

The name of one of the four houses at the Habadasher's Adams' Grammar School in Newport is being changed, following the Black Lives Matter protests.
Clive House was named after Robert Clive, the Shropshire-born Major General who played a leading role in establishing British colonial rule in India.
The school has decided to change the name after consulting staff, past and current pupils and parents.
It received more than 800 responses and head teacher Gary Hickey said the renaming would contribute, "in a small but useful way, to recognising the injustices inflicted on ethnic minority communities."
A new name will be chosen in the autumn and the school has also committed to teaching more black history.

A junior doctor at Royal Stoke University Hospital has told how she looked after her father at home when he became seriously ill with coronavirus.
Hina Morjaria, 27, an Army reservist who is completing her foundation training at the hospital, said he became ill days after she tested positive for Covid-19.
Captain Morjaria, who lives with her parents in Stoke-on-Trent, cared for him after he was diagnosed with bilateral covid-pneumonia after having a chest x-ray.
“He is usually really outgoing and really happy and has a huge hobby with his electrical gadgets and stuff but he was just staring into thin air and he dropped 11kg because he was eating teaspoons of food a day. It was shocking to see,” she said.
Captain Morjaria closely monitored his blood pressure and fluid intake and used her mobile phone to track the oxygen levels in his blood.
She later began taking him on “walks down to the garden” but said he was now much better and was "making lots of dad jokes" again.
