    The number of positive Covid-19 cases in an outbreak linked to a pub in Staffordshire has risen to 22.

    About 1,000 people have come forward to be tested, the county council said, after cases were connected to the Crown and Anchor pub in Stone last month.

    Of the 22 confirmed cases, 15 people live in Staffordshire and seven in Stoke-on-Trent.

    The council said more than 60 contacts they have had were found and all are self-isolating for 14 days.

    The 38-year-old, from Tipton, was initially pulled over on suspicion of committing a traffic offence on the M40 yesterday afternoon, the force said.

    As officers spoke to him on the hard shoulder, he drove off, hit a police car and then fled through Warwick Services at 90mph before turning on to the hard shoulder.

    He was caught after he fled on foot and arrested for several offences including suspicion of dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer.

    A blaze in a woodland which burned for several days is thought to have been started by a camp-fire.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said, external more than 20 appliances had been sent to the scene near Enville, near Stourbridge, when it was first reported on Friday afternoon.

    Today it said firefighters would keep returning to the site of the fire to check for hotspots and damp them down.

    Staffordshire Police is now investigating.

    A motorcyclist has died and a woman's in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in Coventry this morning.

    The pair were believed to be on the bike on Coundon Road when it lost control near the level crossing, came off the road and hit a parked car and a lamppost, West Midlands Police said. , external

    Bystanders gave the man who was riding the bike CPR before paramedic arrived, but the ambulance service said, , externalnothing could be done and he died at the scene.

    The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    A man's been arrested after a police officer was allegedly headbutted in Rugby.

    Warwickshire Police said, external the officer had responded to a call about a man being abusive to customers at a betting shop in Church Street yesterday.

    The 58-year-old, from Rugby, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly.

    • Council-run swimming pools and gyms in Sandwell which reopened last week could shut again over a pay dispute. Unions say they will ballot staff on strike action unless Sandwell Leisure Trust improves its offer of a 1% wage increase over the next two years.     The M5 was closed for three hours yesterday in both directions between junction 2 for Oldbury and junction 3 for Quinton.

    The 15-year-old suffered serious injuries and West Midlands Police said it was unclear how the boy, who was on foot, came to be on the motorway.

    A 19-year-old woman has been charged with wounding and possession of a knife after a teenage girl was stabbed in Walsall on Tuesday.

    Emergency services were called to Bridge Street at about 16:15 where the 17-year-old was found with injuries to her neck and head.

    She was taken to hospital, but West Midlands Police said , externalher injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

    The 19-year-old, from Walsall, was charged on Wednesday and has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance before the town's magistrates court on 2 September.

    Police officers could be sent on more patrols in Sandwell as part of efforts to contain a recent spike in coronavirus cases.

    Chief Constable Dave Thompson in his latest blog, external said his force would be "seeking to maximise visibility and interventions" to bring infections down in the area.

    The latest data from Public Health England actually revealed a fall in the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 in Sandwell.

    The figures showed 19.5 people tested positive for every for every 100,000 population (for the seven days to 1 August), down from 31.2 just a week earlier.

    However, while the rate is below the 89.3 per 100,000 in Blackburn with Darwen, it is above the average rate for England of 8.8 per 100,000.
