    His side plays Olympiakos at Molineux on Thursday in the second-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

    Before the first-leg in Athens in March, which finished 1-1, right at the start of the problems created for European football by the coronavirus pandemic, Nuno said there was "no point" playing matches with no fans in the stadium.

    Nearly five months on and after the experience of his side playing nine closed-doors games in the Premier League, the Portuguese manager's view has not changed, even if he can understand why it is happening.

    "There is an emptiness, before, during and after the matches," he said. "This is the feeling everybody has. It doesn't feel the same."

    A woman and three children have been seriously hurt when a car hit a tree this morning in Birmingham.

    The collision happened on Belchers Lane, Bordesley Green, West Midlands Police said.

    A fourth child was also taken to hospital with a broken collar bone.

    Officers said the road at the junction of Cotterills Lane was likely to be shut for much of the morning.

    There has been a surge of interest in moving to the country due to city dwellers' priorities changing during the coronavirus lockdown, estate agents have said.

    People are looking for more outdoor space, and may have more flexibility to work from home, Rightmove said.

    Across the UK, enquiries about buying a home in a village jumped by 126% in June and July compared with the same period last year, it said.

    In Birmingham, village enquiries are up 186%.

    Patients at one of Stoke-on-Trent's hospitals will have to be moved later this month to allow maintenance work.

    Some wards at the Haywood Hospital in Burslem are set to be closed until October, with patients transferred to Cheadle Hospital.

    Herefordshire Council plans to borrow more than £4m to pay for repairs to flood damaged roads, because it said it hasn't got enough support from the government.

    The cost of repairing the B4224 from Fiddler's Green to Fownhope is expected to be £2,565,000

    Work to repair other roads and improve road stability at Whitney-on-Wye will raise that to £4,027,000, the authority said.

    Opposition conservative councillors proposed to instead pay for the repairs with cash from the council’s financial resilience reserve, but their amendment was defeated.

    The cabinet member responsible for finances said it made sense to hold on to cash reserves to deal with further coronavirus spending.

    Several roads in part of Birmingham are going to be turned into one-way streets but the council has denied they will be permanently blocked.

    The thirteen routes are in Lozells and the authority's said the temporary move is aimed at cutting traffic and making them safer.

    However, councillor Waseem Zaffar, who represents the area and is cabinet member for transport, took to YouTube, external to deny rumours the roads were being turned into cul-de-sacs.

    He said the suggestion was "completely untrue", there would be a full consultation, external but the alterations were aimed at benefiting residents.

    "We know we need to make some changes because these narrow streets can not facilitate the volume of traffic at times in both directions."

  11. Nine Tesco staff test positive for Covid-19published at 18:15 British Summer Time 5 August 2020

    There have been nine cases of coronavirus confirmed at the Arena Park Tesco in Coventry and the building has undergone deep cleaning to make it safe.

    Coventry City Council said the people affected were all self-isolating.

    Staff who have been in working with them are being tested and public health teams are tracing others who may have recently come into contact with them.

    Store manager Jamie Tonks said his team were "engaging with public health authorities" and taking, "all the relevant precautions".

    Liz Gaulton, Director of Public Health for Coventry, said the city had seen "a gradual rise in numbers of Covi-19 cases" and this was a "timely reminder that this pandemic is not over".

    A two-month wait for parts has held up repairs to a splash park in Worcester and means it won't be open this summer.

    Worcester City Council said "significant repairs" were needed by the pumps in Gheluvelt Park and it planned to have the area ready again for next year.

    One of the projects to get money from the government's Getting Building Fund is the planned bridge in Worcester, linking Gheluvelt Park and the old Kepax landfill site.

    The bridge will be for pedestrians and cyclists and give people another way to cross the River Severn.

    Councillor Marc Bayliss, the leader of Worcester City Council, said it would be "a significant addition to our city, providing a real incentive for residents and visitors to walk and cycle more".

  17. Man 'critical' after two-car crashpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 5 August 2020

    A man hurt in a crash in Birmingham is in a critical condition in hospital, police say.

    The 44-year-old's thought to have been the driver of a white Mercedes which was in collision with a black Mercedes at the junction of High Street and Station Road, Erdington, last night.

    West Midlands Police said, external the crash resulted in the black Mercedes hitting a shop.

    officers added the driver of that car was helping with their investigation.
