    A driver has suffered a serious head injury after his car overturned in Wolverhampton earlier.

    Emergency services were called to the junction of Codsall Road and Windermere Road just after 10:30, police said.

    The man, in his 80s, received trauma care at the scene, before being taken to hospital, said the ambulance service.

    No other vehicle is believed to be involved.

  2. Kickstart work scheme 'unlikely to help soon'published at 18:00 British Summer Time 3 September 2020

    A Warwickshire businessman says a government scheme to create work placements for unemployed young people is unlikely to benefit his firm until later in the year.

    Under the Kickstart scheme employers will be paid £1,500 for every 16-24 year old they train, the aim being to help those people build the skills they need to find a job.

    But John Nollett, chief executive or Pressmark Pressings, an engineering firm in Atherstone, Warwickshire, said more clarity on the scheme would have enabled him to plan more.

    "Getting information has been really difficult and understanding how we go about this has been tough," he said.

    "We now have found we have to use an intermediary because we want to take on a few people - we don't want 30 - so there's a lot more to go yet before we start employing these people."

    The 10k runs will take in some famous landmarks and stop at some of the city's best spots to hear about its heritage, said the city council.

    Health bosses in Staffordshire say people can get a face-to-face Covid-19 test if they're unable to book online.

    There have been issues with pre-booking the system for regional testing centres, which means people who have turned up on the day have been allowed to get tested.

    Director of health and care for Staffordshire County Council Dr Richard Harling has issued advice for people who can't book in advance.

    A Telford-based organisation that hands out food from supermarkets that might otherwise go to landfill is "absolutely desperate" for a new home.

    The Food Share Project has been based at the Park Lane Centre in Woodside, but will have to leave because the centre is preparing to return to normal after lockdown.

    Project spokesperson Lea Bevan said they need somewhere at least 10,000 square feet in area, with a loading bay, a secure compound for their vehicles and floors that can be mopped.

    She said she knows there are a lot of empty properties around the town, but no deal has been agreed and they have around one week to find somewhere.

    Four workers at the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) factory in Solihull have tested positive for coronavirus and another dozen have been sent home as a precaution.

    The company said it had identified the 12 through contact tracing.

    JLR said it has introduced a number of measures to reduce the risk of infection, including temperature checks, social distancing where it is possible and one-way systems around the site.

    Schools will look different to pupils, with one-way systems, screens keeping pupils apart and staggered start times.

    Many pupils will be given inductions so they understand the new rules, such as staying in their "bubble" groups and where to use social distancing.

    It has been almost six months since schools were closed by the lockdown.

    It's understood he was standing with friends when he was injured, police have said.

    Detectives are carrying out house-to-house inquiries after the incident on Pinley Fields in the city at about 22:40.

    The victim is being treated in hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, said West Midlands Police.
