    The Coventry City manager Mark Robins, has found it hard to predict who will be lining up for their opponents, Sheffield Wednesday, tonight.

    The game at St Andrew's was originally scheduled for earlier in the month, but was postponed due to a number of positive coronavirus tests at Wednesday.

    Robins isn't sure if they'll play the same team that faced Everton in the FA Cup or use some of the players who were rested for that game.

    He also said Wednesday have "some good young players" and he added: "Their manager at the moment is keeping everybody guessing in terms of the fitness and availability of some other individuals."

  3. Unsafe sleeping blamed for unexpected baby deaths at homepublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2021

    Last year there were nine babies over the age of one month who died unexpectedly in Walsall.

    A report to Walsall’s Health and Wellbeing Board said there were 32 baby deaths in total in 2019-20, but the majority had been expected, due to babies being born prematurely and having health issues.

    Esther Higdon, senior programme development and commissioning manager, Children and Young People at Walsall, said: “The majority of these deaths have been due to safe sleeping issues."

    "Whether it is co-sleeping, sofa sleeping, parents drinking alcohol whilst caring for the child or bumpers and pillows in the cot."

    And she said efforts were being made to educate parents about safe sleeping for babies.

  4. Search for three men after dating app attackpublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2021

    Police want to speak to these three men after a woman was attacked in her own home after arranging to meet a man through a dating app.

    West Midlands Police said the 44-year-old met him in the foyer of her apartment in Tipton at 01:30 on 8 December and two other men turned up a short time later.

    They forced their way in and she was punched in the stomach and face by all three before having two iPhones and a set of keys taken.

    Although she wasn't badly injured, the force said "the psychological impact of such an attack cannot be underestimated".

    A man has been arrested in Telford on suspicion of human trafficking, modern slavery and growing drugs.

    West Mercia Police said the 37-year-old from the Arleston area is now being held in custody and it follows raids at five properties earlier today.

    The force said the raids were carried out after information uncovered during raids last November

    A number of mobile phones and other items linked with drug offences were seized during the raids.

    Community Covid-19 testing is continuing in Staffordshire today for local people who don't have symptoms.

    The community testing regime was expanded earlier this month to cover all 317 local authorities.

    The Health Secretary has previously described the tests as a "vital additional tool" in finding asymptomatic cases and slow the spread of coronavirus.

    Staffordshire County Council is urging anyone in a hotspot to get tested, external.

    They include Cannock Chase, Lichfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford and Tamworth.

    South Staffordshire District Council said tests were available, external today at Wombourne Library and the scout and guide hut on Walsall Road, Great Wyrley.

    After floods and snow closed Covid-19 testing sites across the West Midlands at the weekend and the start of the week, they have started to reopen in recent days.

    Worcestershire County Council said a site at the University of Worcester had now reopened.

    Worcestershire County Cricket has announced its first female president

    Margaret Thatcher's former personal assistant Cynthia Crawford will succeed the late Cecil Duckworth for a two-year term, subject to the approval of members.

    Mrs Crawford served Baroness Thatcher for 35 years, including her 11 and a half years at Downing Street, and has been president of the Worcestershire Supporters’ Association for the past eight years.

    She said: "It is a post I am delighted to accept at a club and wonderful ground which means so much to me and can never be replaced in my heart."

    A tougher lockdown might still be needed, leader of Solihull Council has warned.

    Councillor Ian Courts said said while infection rates were falling, they're not falling fast enough.

    Mr Courts said: “I would describe it as a plateauing of the numbers rather than the sort of decline that’s needed."

    Between January 16-22, the infection rate for Solihull was 441 new infections per 100,00 people.

    Further restrictions could include the closure of non-essential “click and collect”, shutting the likes of garden centres or a ban on house sales and tradesmen entering homes.

    Business owners affected by floods in Shropshire who were issued with parking tickets in the last week have been told they'll have to go through the normal appeals process, if they feel it was unfair.

    The owner of a bridal shop in Shrewsbury said she got a ticket on Friday while trying to pump nine feet of water out of its basement.

    Stephanie Garrington, who is also 39-weeks pregnant, said “We were in such a fluster when we saw our basement was flooded that we didn’t even think about parking."

    Ms Garrington said the council should be supporting traders dealing with the floods rather than adding to their misery.

    And she and complained the parking attendant she spoke to was "generally really unsympathetic on a really tough day".

    Frances Darling, Shropshire Council's trading standards and licensing operations manager, said she had sympathy with business owners, who were also dealing with the impact of coronavirus restrictions.

    But she added: "There remains a need to ensure motorists do not park in an unsafe manner that would add to the seriousness of the flooding situation."

    And the local authority said it could not make a "blanket decision" to cancel tickets issued during the floods.

    A man from Newcastle-under-Lyme has been released on bail after chaining himself to the gates of Walleys Quarry landfill site yesterday.

    He and other campaigners are unhappy about a smell they claim is coming from the site, but operators Red Industries said it complies with regulations.

    The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and Staffordshire Police said it was continuing to patrol the Silverdale area.
