    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in Coventry city centre this morning.

    It happened outside the Philip Larkin pub on The Burgess just after 01:00, according to the ambulance service.

    "The man was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to hospital," a spokesperson said.

    It's not yet known whether the stabbing is connected to another the previous evening. West Midlands Police has been approached for comment.

    The 29-year-old was attacked near a kebab shop on New Union Street at about 19:00, police said.

    He ran into a nearby shop for help, according to the West Midlands force.

    He was taken to hospital suffering serious injuries, added the ambulance service.

    An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding, assault and criminal damage.

    Birmingham street traders have been granted a judicial review of a council policy requiring them to sell only “innovative products”.

    Birmingham Street Traders Association says the new policy – which includes a non-refundable £724 application fee – will mean long-running city businesses will close.

    The policy includes a requirement for traders to sell items not available on the high street, but traders say the council has so far not given any examples of what these include.

    The plan is set to be challenged at a High Court hearing due to take place after 26 March.

    A spokesman for the force said: "Please be vigilant when browsing animals for sale and do everything you can to make sure the adverts are from genuine sellers before parting with any money.

    "If anything arouses suspicion at all or doesn’t seem to quite add up, please, please don’t send them any money."
